*A person can rejoice only when he has conquered his inner self. There is then a great inner joy in him. Such a person is a true conqueror of the self. His joy knows no bounds, and any amount of external rejoicing cannot be compared to the inner joy he experiences within himself.
No human being is perfect. Only is perfect. God has created man with many imperfections. He has done so that man constantly tries to overcome them. This is man’s mission in this world- constantly trying to overcome his weaknesses, imperfections and faults.
When your overcome your weaknesses and imperfections one by one, you are in fact conquering your self. Unless you learn to conquer your self, you will not be able to contribute anything to the betterment of society. As a first step you should be able to admit your weaknesses, shortcomings and failure. This is not easy. Your pride will come in your way. You should be able to conquer your pride and say.’ I was wrong. It was my mistake.’ It requires courage and humility to admit your faults.
If you fail to objectives, your objectives, you should not feel discouraged. On the other hand you should try to analyze the cause of your failure. When you understand the cause of your failure, you will be able to take corrective steps. No one at the first attempt achieves total success in anything. Mistakes are an inherent part of success and achievement. This is because you learn from your mistakes and improve yourself.
Kavita failed in her half-yearly examination. She blamed the teachers for her failure. The teachers did not teach properly. They did not give proper notes. They were irregular in covering lessons. She had a number of complaints against them. But her friend Sweta scored the highest in the class. Sweta did not have any complaints against her teachers. In fact she was full of praise for their teaching.
Kavita’s parents tried to make her understand that the problem was with her. She spent most of her time reading storybooks and playing with her friends. She did not do her homework properly. She developed the habit of putting off what she was supposed to do now. She was the first to go off to bed and the last one to wake up.
Kavita loved her language teacher. The teacher never scolded her. Often she had a good word about Kavita. Kavita also never gave an opportunity for the teacher to be unhappy with her. Whatever the teacher said, she happily obeyed her. The teacher was aware of the complaints against Kavita. She decided to do something about it. She told her what she could do if she made a little more effort. A little discipline on her part would do if she made a little more effort. A little discipline on her part would not only improve her results but also make her parents and other teachers happy.
Kavita began to think. She decided to change her behavior. She began to pay attention to what was taught in the class. She began to do her homework every day. She limited the time spent on playing with her friends. She began to get up early in the morning. In a short time the results began to improve, believe it or not, in the final examination she came second in the class.
Even the people who became great were not perfect. Each of them had many imperfections. Many of them struggled to overcome their limitations. Only some of them conquered. Others just failed. What is most important is to build a strong character irrespective of your career. You career will end and it will be buried with you. But your character will be remembered, even proclaimed day by day from the housetops.
To proclaim such a great character, there is no need for any great speech or biography. Such great characters die in silence, often without having written a word. But volumes are spoken of and libraries are filled merely with the nobility of their character.
The lives of great people were written by others precisely because such people conquered the world and its people, especially by their inner self. They bear witness to the virtues like truth, justice, love, compassion and forgiveness, and above all to their absolute trust in God and to their unshakable hope in the life to come. Such people are great because above all they have conquered their self.
The most important thing is to become aware of your true self with all your weaknesses and shortcomings. You can do it by questioning yourself frequently. The reason for this examination is that often you are not your true self.
We move with the world. We put on masks. We live to please others. Our true self is buried behind these masks by our own making. Only the self is aware of it. Most of us in the normal course of life are not aware of our thoughts, feelings and actions. Our feelings and thoughts are not totally under our control. An angry person is not really aware that he is angry. The moment he is aware of it, this anger will go away.
The search in your life must be constant. Then you become aware, not only of your own self but also of other human beings and the whole universe. Once you become aware of your self, you to come out of your self. This will pave way for overcoming imperfections one by one. You will eventually achieve success in your life.
