Studies have been done in many countries regarding heart diseases in women and as per the cumulative results of those studies, it is clear that women in early age are very less affected from heart disease when compared to men. After menopause, women too like men equally get affected from heart disease. With the increase in age, risk of heart disease too increases.
There are many reasons responsible for women to be less affected from heart diseases. In comparison to men, women smoke less. As a result, ill-effects of smoke on health are seen less in case of women unlike men who worsen their health with excessive smoking. Women who smoke are at high risk of suffering from heart disease then men. In our Indian society, very less number of women smoke in comparison with women in Western society. Smoking exerts harmful and dangerous effects on vital body organs. Among these the most important are heart, digestive system, lungs etc..... This is the reason that women who do not smoke are protected from suffering from disorders of these vital organs.
Women in India do not consume alcohol except the ones living in modern societies of metropolitan cities. Indian women even hate drinking habit of their husbands who throughout the day remain drenched in alcohol. But, majority of Indian women are dependent on men and thus do not protest their drinking. Apart from all these social factors like no smoking, no alcohol consumption, the biggest benefit women reap is that alcohol does not produce its ill-effects on their body. Even if effect is produced, it is very minimal and thus they get protected from heart disease.
Studies have also shown that women or men who live lazy, relaxed life are at equal risk of suffering from heart diseases. Men and women who work just by sitting at a single place and does not involve themselves in any sort of physical work or do not exercise regularly will see ill-effects of their life style on the health very soon. Most of the women in India keep themselves involved in work of one or the other form. Their daily household works like sweeping the floor, cleaning utensils, washing clothes, cleaning the home, cooking etc..... will provide sufficient physical activity to their body. They do not need any other physical exercise. They for sure will reap the good benefits of these activities on their heart and on their body overall.
There is one more reason for decreased rate of heart disease in case of women and that reason is that women are subjected to less amount of mental stress. Men are the bread earners and thus take lots of mental stress and tension throughout the day. Stress related to work, office, meetings etc..... are very common in their lives. Women are considered to be the home makers. They right from early age are taught to remain patient and calm. Thus, they hardly lose their temper. All these qualities protect them from heart diseases. Women in Indian society after finishing off their daily chores, mingle well with others in their neighborhood. Their this activity will protect them from stress and tension. Women who work outdoors suffer from same amount of mental stress, the way men do and thus are at high risk of suffering from heart diseases when compared with men.
Body of women produces hormone called as estrogen. It is produced in ovaries. This hormone is responsible for causing menstrual cycles in women. Until women monthly receives her menstruation period, she remains protected from heart disease to some extent. This is because their blood will have excess amount of H.D.L. or good cholesterol. However, after menopause risk of suffering from heart diseases increases. After menopause, ovaries do not function. Thus, amount of good cholesterol in the body of women keeps decreasing after menopause and thus they may get affected from heart diseases. Women who suffer from diabetes are at high risk of getting a heart attack when compared with diabetic men.
In this way, no smoking, no alcohol consumption, less stressful life, good amount of H.D.L. or good cholesterol level etc..... are the reasons for women to suffer less from heart diseases and heart related disorders.
