Thease are some practical techniques for achieving Better Thinking.
1.See things without limiting your vision.
when most us first hear a new idea or solution to a problem,we react instinctively by either liking it or disliking it.
then we use our intelligence to defend that view point.it is Very common in political scenario.Political Party-x has no doubt in rejecting Party-Y's Viwpoints.Supporters simply accept their leader's viewpoint.
To escape this trap we can use this method.ie see PLUS,MINUS,INTERESTING.
I will illustrate this method with an example.
imagine a situation,say, a discussion about the design of public buses, Some one suggests taking out all the seats.what's your immediate reaction? why?.write it down.
Whatever you said,now take another look at the matter.
spend 3 minutes writing down every good point, every bad point,and every point that neither good nor bad but simply interesting .Then just read it. You can see the meaninglessness in being a biased person. you will get a lot of answers positives and negetives.
Now just see you achieve broadmindedness in your thinking!.
Believe me . it is very very important in better thinking and to be a better person.
2.Imagine the probable outcomes of our actions a four distances in the future.-immediate,short term,mediumn term,and long term.
You willbe astonished to see how our predictions of immediate and short term affects lead us as to perceive longer-term possibilities.
3. See All goals.
An often unused tool of better thinking is the practice of making a list of all your reasons for doing a perticular thing. Most of us assume we know what our goals are,but often we have hidden goals that get in our ways.
Definig our goals can lead to creative solution to problems.
for example,
A friend I play badminton with,usually loses because he tries to go for 'kill' shots-which generally wind up in the net.
Although he thinks winning is his goal, he is in fact led by another goal also-the desire to look terrific!.
The pursuit of one of of his goals is keeping him away from reaching other.
4. clearly define the problem:-
One lady asked."how can I get my baby to eat eggs as breakfast?".
then I asked" Why do you want him to eat eggs?"
" For the body building protein".
So actually prblem was How can she help her child to get enough protein?.
So instead of insisting on eggs,she could have tried other items like butter .etc..
5. Alternatives,possibilities.
Some times even after using this methods,you may not have found a solution. The key to find alternative is to look for possibilities outside your usual thinking patterns.
