The treatment give to an accident victim, before the arrival of a doctor is called first -aid.
You must have observed first-aid box in a bus near the driver’s cabin. There is a + symbol in red color painted on its lid. Cotton, bandage sprit, seizers and emergency useful medicine and etc are in the box.
When the skin receives cuts or injuries or burns, the wound has be cleaned and treated before approaching a doctor. First-aid can save a person’s life, some times when the medical aid or hospital is far from the place of accident.
How is first- aid given? A person who is rendering first – aid should wash his hands cleanly with soap. Then he can give first- aid in the following way:
Apply direct pressure. Place a clean, folder cloth over the injured area and firmly apply pressure. If blood soaks through, do not remove it. Instead, cover that cloth with another one and continue to apply pressure to the wound for 7- 10 minutes. If the bleeding is from the ear, place a clean bandage over the ear, lay the victim on his side, and allow the blood to brain out through the bandage.
Place injured part of the body above the level of the heart, if possible, while you apply direct pressure.
The wound is cleaned with water and an ointment which is antiseptic is applied on the wound. In case of bleeding, the wound is cleaned or wiped with a cloth. The wound is dressed with cotton and quaze after applying antiseptic cream or dettol.
The person should be taken to a doctor immediately.
It is important to know diseases spread and what we can do to prevent them in order to lead a healthy life. It is also important to know what to do in the case of an accidental injury or a sudden bout of illness, while waiting for medical aid to arrive. The steps we can take in such cases are called first aid.
Cuts and wounds
a) Wash the area with clean water. You can use soap to wash of dirt. Dry the area can use soap to wash off dirt. Dry the area with sterile gauze or clean cloth. Apply an antiseptic lotion with the help of sterile cotton or gauze. Do not touch the wound with your fingers.
b) I the cut is small, cover it with a band-Aid. For a bigger wound, use gauze and a bandage or a clean strip of cloth.
c) If the cut is deep and does not stop bleeding press a pad of cotton, gauze or cloth over it until he bleeding stops or take the person to a doctor.
d) You must always consult a doctor for a deep cut or wound, and make sure you take a tetanus vaccine.
