Television ads

Televisions ads - Its Crazy Know? When the television was first introduced in India, the programmes were rather monotonous but what made them interesting were the various ads. These also made the people aware of the various products existing in the markets. Not only did the people became aware of the products but the producers also became aware of the importance of advertisements and from then-on advertisements have gained tremendous importance. Today one is aware of a certain kind of a race, a competition among the producers to advertise their products. The advertising company will go to any length to capture the attention of the viewers and in order to do so one will come out with some crazy ads. For example in the 'Thums-up' ad, Cine-star Akshay Kumar jumps on a truck full of Thums-up bottles and the truck crashes into a wall. Now just suppose some crazy fans imitating Akshay Kumar jump on moving truck could easily break most of their bones. We have also seen the crazy ad os 'Thums-up' where model jumps from a height, picks a bottle of Thums-up and is pulled back. This as actually lead to the death of a small child, so that it becomes necessary to issue warning notes before showing such crazy ads. Another example is the Akai Home Theatre ad. In this ad a man whose wife has gone to her mother's house invites a beautiful girl to watch a film together. Now don't you think this gives an idea to husbands to be unloyal to their wives in their absence? We should have T.V. ads but we should keep in mind our Indian culture and if the advertisements are full of humour mixed with sensibility then they will really add colour to our lives and will help us to relax and smile and enjoy viewing 'ads' on T.V.

Anyone for opium?

No comments on “Anyone for opium?”

We don’t know why we live, but while we are alive, there must be some valid reason for our life, an explanation for our successes and failures in life, and finally for our death. A reason came into being when the concept of God came into being. Since time immemorial, man has been worshipping some kind of deity or the other, primarily to explain the unexplained phenomenon of nature, and to provide a reason to live another day in our lives.

This could be something like what media provides us with. Daily soaps on the television provide us with a reason to live another day in our lives. They give us a reason to look forward to tomorrow. The concept of God and the reason to worship Him has provided us with a similar enthusiasm to live. Like everything in life, the concept of God has been challenged by everyone. Several arguments were devised by philosophers of the yesteryears put forth several arguments to explain the experience of the spiritual being we call God, there have seen variations in them down the centuries.

These variations and differences have to be understood very carefully. The basic purpose of religion has to be digested by mankind. Religion evolved because if man is not given a deity to worship, he would kneel before celebrities, athletes, and even prostitutes. These have been a part of the human society since the dawn of civilisation, but they have been thrust to the forefront by the media in the contemporary society. The media has been instrumental in propelling some individuals to the fore with such zeal and enthusiasm that movie stars and sportspersons have come to be idealized and worshipped.  A clear difference between the ideal and the real should be drawn, and this is where the media and parents could play a major role.

Religion is the most effective opium of the masses. It has the potential to intoxicate people and make them do things they would not normally do.  Religion evolved as an explanation for the unknown, to explain the fears of mankind.  All through the existence of mankind, and our being in the world, we have been confronted with several explanations giving a detailed account of the existence of things as we see them today. The phenomenon of life and our place in the universe has been tried to be understood at all levels through science. Religion has stepped in to explain the phenomenon left unexplained by modern science.

Modern science has very little room for religion and spirituality, and yet the truths of life can never be explained by scientific explanations alone. We need an agency stronger than the logical tenets of science to explain our existence. This is where spirituality with its set of values steps in.

Spirituality emerges as a set of values and beliefs that unite mankind with nature and the universe. Spirituality essentially involves a spiritual being or deity that has the power to bring about the union. It is all about submitting oneself to a higher authority that has power and might over and above all. It is all about discovering the connection between the world we live in, the world we come from, and the final destination of mankind. This could be achieved by meditation, supplicating before God, or by means of prayer.

Religion and spirituality play an important role in the lives of 80 per cent of the world’s population. Avenues of communication have brought religion to all the corners of the world, but religion has been confused with extremism in the contemporary world. It is being taken as an excuse for spreading terror and havoc in the minds of innocent laymen, while the basic purpose of religion is lost in the labyrinth of life in the modern world.

At the end of the day, all roads lead to Rome, or all religions lead to God, who alone can deliver us from our apathies.

When business is mixed with pleasure

The invention of the television created history in the field of entertainment when it was invented by John Logie Baird in 1923. Television broadcasts were initiated formally in 1929. Several programmes of entertainment and educational importance are telecast on the television. With the liberalization of the global economy, advertisements have formed an inherent part of the revenue gathered by the television. These advertisements form the principal source of revenue for private operators who are to compete with national establishments and governmental organisations and other private operators in the race to grab attention from spectators.

Programming in television is usually a mixture of programmes for general channels, but in case of news channels, news forms the main content. The advertisements relayed in between regular news relays forms the main source of revenue. The programmes should be potent enough to grab the attention of viewers and keep it the aim of all the programmes aired on the television is to keep the attention of the viewers fixed on the television set long enough to form an impression on him or her through the advertisement shown. This way, the television, or media professionals get to decide what the4 public should watch on the television or in television programmes. They become the managers of the content.

There is very little or no avenue for a feedback in mass media, this makes the media barons and professionals the kings when it comes to delivering content. The loss of values and degradation of values in terms of the media, that is usually attributed to the media and the public that is believed to get what it wants, is actually a product of media professionals. It is they who decide on the menu to be served to the masses.

Avenues of feedback are very limited in mass communication. This leaves very few opportunities for the media barons to know how popular their programmes are or how much they are disliked. Rather, it is the media professionals and media barons who decide what the public should watch and what impact the programmes would have on the masses.

Their decisions are facilitated by the businesses they aim to promote through their programmes on the television. All programmes on the television are meant to hold the attention of the viewer so long enough to make him or her watch the advertisements. The advertisements are supposed to have a persuasive effect on the audience; they are supposed to make them buy a product by acting on their psychology and thinking.

The programmes aired on the television are relayed on such timings that the target audience can spare some time to watch the programmes or rather the advertisements. For instance, cartoons are aired at the time when most children are getting ready for breakfast before leaving for school. This would ensure children on dining tables insisting on television sets being turned on while they have their breakfasts. The advertisements between such cartoons are also meant to persuade children to try on certain products and toys like fruit juices and cookies. Likewise, when ladies are usually free from household chores, they find themselves witnessing plots unfurling in soaps with melodrama at its best.  There is always an element of pathos in these dramas that ladies enjoy. The commercials aired between such soaps are usually of products ladies love to use.

You may be watching Tom and Jerry cartoon or may not. Your age may be 10 or 48,you also may not be interested in watching T.V, but you may  have come across two words " TOM" and "JERRY". This Cartoon is the most viewed Cartoon on Earth. This is 70th year of Tom and Jerry Cartoon. Lets look at them in detail.

The Story of Tom and Jerry is something like this. One Mouse(Jerry) teases one Cat(Tom). Mouse-Cat are enemies from many generation. One mouse can't tease me,thinking this,Cat runs to mouse to take revenge. This type of Condition gives us Entertainment. In 5 to 9 minutes, there is running of one on other end and in few minutes, there came result and the film completes. This sort of many films gives us Entertainment. You might have seen Charlie Chaplin on T.V in childhood. He was running towards the running dog. Someone running against to catch is always entertainment. Due to behaviour of Charlie Chaplin and work,he was taken in many films to do such type of role. This type of activeness was taken and character of Tom was built.

The problem to Tom(Cat) is that why like himself,Jerry(Mouse) is living with full royalties and facilites, happily. That's why, Tom tries to trouble him and doesn't want Jerry(Mouse) to live happily. On the other hand, Jerry also fights with Tom and does not gives up in ease. Due to this fight, Comedy is created and thus gives lots of entertainment. Their body is so much fexible that, any type of fight is going on they never get hurt. They have a passage from any gap. They just puts them in any character they want. Either be round, square, triangle or any shape, they are just amazing. They just put them in any form which the character commits them to put in. If Darwin had seen this series (Tom and Jerry Cartoon Series) then, the proof of Survival of the fitest would be explained by Tom and Jerry, that, both Tom and Jerry never die. Because ,they just put themselves according to the condition. Any thing which goes into their stomach that part of stomach is taken the shape of that thing. Then there is no possibility of dyng.

Well, this is the situation of Tom and Jerry. It does not means that they are the only one that performs this chasing. In real life,Man can be termed as Mouse and service can be termed as CAT.
