The eighties was dominated by gorgeous ladies from the South like Jayaprada, Vijayashanthi and Sridevi and Jayaprada was the most gorgeous among them. Jayaprada in a sari was a visual treat to millions of viewers and brands which wanted to promote Saree's. Infact it is difficult to find an Indian heroine who is more beautiful than the ravishing Jayaprada. The great Satyajit Ray once said that Jayaprada is among the most beautiful women in the world.
Jayapradha was born in 1962 and by the team she was 14 she was already a star in Telugu movies. Her real name was Lalita Rani. In 1977 when Jayapradha was just 15 she was co starring with superstar of the South and living legend N T Rama Rao who was delivering one block buster after another in succession. She was already a huge star in regional movies by the tine she was introduced to Bollywood in 1979 through Sargam. The film went on to become a huge super hit and Jayaprada already a big name in South, went on to became a household name in India. Jayaprada bagged the national award for the best actress for her role in the block buster Sargam. When Jayaprada won the national award she was only 17 years old.
In India generally actresses are classified into two categories. In the first category there are actresses who look beautiful but are never known for any great talent while in the second category of actresses are known for their talent but are not as good looking like Shabana Azmi. Jayaprada is one of those rare heroines like Vijayashanthi and Sridevi who are blessed with talent and gorgeous looks. While actresses like Vijayashanthi consistently delivered hits in regional movies, Jayaprada did one better delivering hits in Telugu and Hindi movies simultaneously and on a consistent basis.
Jayaprada's unique talent lied in the fact that she formed a perfect pair with any hero. She was comfortable with N T Rama Rao the superstar of South who was 40 years older to her, as was she with Jeetendra her favourite co star in Hindi who was 20 years older to her. While she looked comfortable with heroes in the top rung, she was equally comfortable with heroes who were not in the top league or those who played supporting roles to her in heroine orinted films. Jayapradha later confessed in her career that Jeetendra was her closest friend in the industry and her favourite co star. Their onscreen chemistry was so brilliant that they consistently delivered block busters like Swarag Se Sunder, Sanjog and Tohfa to name a few. In fact Jeetendra who has a reputation of co starring with almost every top heroine especially South Indian beauties, acted in the most number of movies with Jayaprada as his co-star and Jayaprada on her part has never acted in more number number of films than with any other hero.
While Jayapradha attained instant fame by the time she was 15, Jayapradha faded early because she looked more at home with senior heroes like Jeetendra or his Telugu counterparts to the audience. Her greatest strengths i.e her mature beautiful looks in sarees went against her when senior heroes with whom she got paired quit films or faded way. The audience those days who were accustomed to seeing Jayaprdada to perfection clad in beautiful sarees were not willing to accept her in less glamourous western outfits as was the norm in movies during the later part of her career when younger heroes took over the scene from seniors like Amitabh and Jeetendra.
Eventhough Jayapradha quit movies years back she will remain forever in the minds of millions of Indians as the most beautiful heroine ever to have acted in Indian movies.

In recent times Vijayashanthi has never ever spared an opportunity to attack Chiranjeevi once he expressed his intention to join politics but when it came to their association in movies it is exactly the opposite because Vijayshanthi and Chiranjeevishared lot of similarities in their career. While Chiranjeevi needs no introduction for his achievements speak for himself, people might have forgotten Vijayshanthi because in India, the life span of a heroine is very short as they last only 5 to 7 years in public memory unlike heroes who last for a good two to three decades.
Early Career of Vijayashanthi:- Vijayashanthi shot into prominence with hits like Neti Bharatam very early in her career. Born on 24th January 1966 she made her debut as early in 1979. Vijayashanthi shot into prominence with strong performances in heroine oriented films like Neti Bharatam and Pratighatana. Vijayashanti like her favourite Chiranjeevi never looked back after the super success of Neti Bharatan in 1983. Chiranjeev too never looked back after delivering the super hit movie "Khaidi"
Vijayashanti also swept aside competion like Chiranjeevi:- When Vijayshanti started her career she had competition from other heroines like Radha and Bhanupriya but as is the case with Chiranjeevi once she established herself in movies, she swept aside the competition within no time. Though Vijayashanthi was hugely successful in heroine oriented films she repeatedly co starred in movies with top stars like Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna. She balanced herself beutifully by acting in movies meant for the regular audiences who prefer the hero in the lead role and heroine in the supporting role. This move of Vijayashanthi has to be complemented because many heroines once they attain success in heroine oriented movies consciously or unconsciously have a tendency to deviate from the usual type of films where the movie revolves around the heroine and in the process they take themselves away from the minds of viewers. One such case is that of Rekha whose success in heroine oriented movies meant she moved out of the memory of regular viewers who wanted to see hero oriented films.
Vijayashanti too had a larger than life image like Chiranjeevi:- Once Chiranjeevi made it big in movies, he was given larger than life roles so that there is a clear differentiation between himself and the rest of the heroes. Vijayashanthi's career too followed the same pattern. Unlike her contemporaries like Radha and Bhaupriya who played supporting roles to heroes Vijayashanti was given a role equivalent to that of a hero in the top league like Balakrishna and Venkatesh. In the later part of her career heroes in the top league stopped acting with Vijayashanthi for the fear of being sidelined. This worked as a blessing in disguise for Vijayshanthi as she acted with newer heroes and this heroes were more than happy playing the supporting role to a great actress like Vijayshanthi.
Vijayashanthi like Chiranjeevi had a very long stay at the top:- Once Chiranjeevi acquired super stardom he never lost it till he quit films to join politics. Chiranjeevi was Number 1 for more than 25 years a feat unprecedented in Indian movies. In India the life of a heroine is 5 to 7 years, but Vijayashanti did exceedingly well not only to outlast the normal life span of a heroine but also dominate the scene during her stay. Vijayshanti too had a very long stay at the top which not many heroines in India can boast of.
Vijayashanthi and Chiranjeevi made a perfect couple in movies:-Vijayshanthi and Chiranjeevi pairing was one of the best ever in the history of Telugu movies. Very few combinations in the history of Indian movies can match the on screen chemistry of this famous pair. Apart from Jeetendra-Jayaprada and Jeetendra-Sridevi not many combinations can match this pairing. The pair did 19 movies together and that is the maximum number of movies Vijayashanthi has ever acted with any hero in her career. The 19 films Chiranjeevi did with Vijayashanti is also a record for Chiranjeevi as he has never acted in more number of films than any other heroine in his career. Vijayashanthi as a actress and Chiranjeevi and Vijayashanthi as a combination were at their peak between early 1980s to late 1980s delivering hits in succession and almost each and every film went on to become a super hit. The pair shared a wonderful onscreen chemistry in films like Manchi Donga where they looked a perfect couple and their on screen romancing where they looked the perfect husband and wife was one of the reasons for the film becoming a super hit.
Vijayashanti would never have imagined during her acting career that one day she would have to campaign vociferiously against her favourite co star Chiranjeevi.
Gothika (2003)
Started off in a superb way in fact in the best possible manner. Each and every scene was shoot with a lot of case.
But, after an hour into the movie it became boring & predictable. The stupid climax made the movie a bad movie watching experience for me.

Touch of evil(1958)
A touch of genius. Oscar Welles instead of just resting over his technical laurels lets his fine ensemble that includes Charles Heston and himself loose in this highly engrossing thriller. while Welles plays a huge, grumpy old American cop held in high regards in his circles because of his knack at solving crimes and his al so famous "intuition", Heston plays a highly influential Mexican narcotics official who likes to play by the laws. A murder case at the border sets off a confrontation between the two magnates where Heston is clearly unsatisfied at the way Welles handled the case. Welles having his ego hurt on being confronted resorts to "evil" ways which sets in motion a highly engulfing game of cat & mouse. While the technical finesse associated with welles' works be it the camerawork(The intro scene is amazing) or the usage of lighting to create an engrossing atmosphere persists, what really works for the movie is the captivating script penned down by welles himself with very well drawn characters portrayed magnificently by the actors. Many consider 'touch of evil' to be the last "classic" noir film ever made.. not to be missed... 9.5/10
Adventureland(2009)
When everybody was going gaga over Greg Motolla's Superbad bak in'07 I didn't really understand what the fuss was about, at best i thought it was an average teen comedy which neither went completely bold nor had a scintilla of sentimentality attached to it. The movie adventureland has been promoted as a movie from the directors of 'superbad',thats outright unfitting cos this movie is so different and much better than superbad. Adventureland is a gentle "coming of age" drama with a heart. A dramedy about a guy working at the adventureland durin d summer break to make some money for his grad school, what first starts off as a mundane job for him slowly grows up on him, earns him new relationships n changes his perspectives on life. Kudos to Motolla for gettin it right this time... 7.5/10
a couple of john cussack rom/comedies from d 80's
Say anything(1989)
An honest romantic about a beautiful and ambitious girl falling for a care-free 'for the moment'guy(John Cussack) and her adoring but less than a perfect father. Cussack is charming in his role and john mahoney has done a good job, rest of the ensemble does a decent job. A refreshing change from all the low grade sex teen comedies. one of
the top teen romantic comedies of the 80's.. 7.5/10
The sure thing(1985)
A high school student(Cussack) embarks on a 1000 mile ride to California, where his best friend has set him up with 'the sure thing', one thing he hadn't accounted for was him falling for the girl he shared his ride with.. a fun ride... 7/10
The Exorcist (1973)
Let me make clear that if u r expecting an unforgattable horror ride with some cranky, thrilling moments and wanna see some scary, dark faces.. let it go then! The movie has been tagged 'SCARIEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME' by many viewers and critics. But it doesnt mean that u r gonna get scared and scream throughout the whole movie. It isnt that type flick. Young viewers (like me!) may find it somewht boring as this movie is very slow and not so scary but what impressed me about the movie is its developing story and characters and last 30 mins. of the movie. I should say that its a classic. Dont ignore it as saying that 'its boring' or 'its funny' . Those viewers havent understand that the goal of the movie was to create frightening environment , not some spooky, horror scenes joint together as a movie. And the main point is that it was made in 1973.. according to me thats a big achievement.
'It impresses me, cuz theres lot more than you see about this movie'
7.7/10
Angels Heart..
One tym watch movie..difficult to understand..
also hv Robert Di Niro as special apperance..
6/10.
Rope (1948)
When it comes to Hitchcock , there won't be left anything more to say..The story take place in one room and it gives movie a 'play' feel..
The direction is, as would be expected, smart and - naturally - innovative here. Overall "Rope" is well worth seeing - it's not quite a failed experiment, nor a successful one. It's a "curio" which is worth appreciating for realizing why it was never really emulated since.
7.0/10
Green Mile
Its jst an instant classic.. In this movie everything is beautiful and warming...the journey within, the characters, situations , happenings , jst everything! Its a perfect interpretation of Stephen King's novel by Frank Darabont. He once again deliveres a masterpiece like 'Shawshank Redemption'. and there is nothing more to say about Tom Hanks ..as it is one of his best performances and Micheal Duncan ..he proves his acting intelligence here, surely.. It jst couldn't have been better!
'..one Of mY favOriteS undOubtebly!'
8.0/10
Run Lola Run
a story with a different subject depending on the future!!!!!with three different situations!!!!!!not a great movie but worth a watch for its different plot!!!!!
i would rate
6/10
Up.
Let me tell you my story first before I write about the film. As soon as this animation film entered into the Top 20 of the IMDb ‘Top Films’ list, I decided to download the film in haste as I am kind of sucker towards films that are being rated so highly by the IMDb users. All that happened in June, when the film had just released and only its CAM print was available on the Internet. That was kind of a rough experience. Though the CAM print was more than bearable, it left me unsatisfied; I even blamed myself for disrespecting an animation film by watching it in one of the worst possible format of a film, the one recorded through a camcoder.
Few months later the film finally released in the DVD and Blu Ray, and I, as usual, set my eyes on downloading the staple 480p BDRip. Though at that time Rajeev Masand gave a DVD review of the film saying that the single disc edition shouldn’t fool its purchaser, since it had loads of extra features (about which I will write a little later) that bought good value for money.
Now, as cynical as it may sound, I decided to download the complete NTSC DVD-Image of the film – and so I did. After 10 days of continuous downloading, I finally got what I wanted – a DVD-Image, waiting to be burned on a standard 4.36 GB DVD. And oh boy, did I get exactly what I wanted? Much more than that! I had virtually everything at my disposal, the menu, ‘scene selection’ option, the ‘extra’ features - all of which Masand was talking about. It was as if I had purchased the Up DVD and was browsing it like anyone would after they have purchased a DVD for 500 bucks.
Needless to say, the experience was magnificent. But what made my enjoying the film even more was something which nobody would fully be able to understand since their knowledge is restricted in only appreciating the film, its plot, its character, but not what went behind its making. Since I had the privilege of accessing the ‘extra’ features of the DVD as well, I came to know about the amount of hard work that was put behind in the making the film.
There was this 20 minute documentary, which featured the interview of the director and all the creative thinkers that explained what made the film, especially its strikingly realistic imagery of ‘Paradise Falls’ in South America. Now, the complete background wasn’t made out of thin air, but it was a result of rather much meticulous attention to detail. ‘Paradise Falls’ is an imaginary name, yes, but its imagery isn’t. The complete crew of the film went to Venezuela in South America where they spent considerable time for their research. The ‘Paradise Falls’ and its surrounding canyons was an amalgamation of Angel falls and Tepui mountains. In Tepui, there was certain rock like structures that did resemble of that of a human face, an animal, or any shape you can imagine -- something which was incorporated in the film, when in one scene Mr. Fredrickson mistook a rock for a man. Or even the brief scene where Russell and Fredrickson struggle under a thunderstorm and the resultant incessant rainfall was inspired from what the crew experienced in their stay in Tapui. There were several other things that were incorporated. The Paradise Falls is, of course, an imitation of the Angel Falls, though the director told that he made it look a few hundred meters more steeper than the original Falls, which, by the way, is already the highest waterfall in the world.
The other contents in the DVD contained a cute, 10 minute animation clip, ‘Partly Cloudy’.
