Everbody loves Comedy. Laughter is the best medicine.Therfore, our film directors too, try to take atleast a few comedy movies every year, if not every month. Below are the comedy movies produced in the Telugu film industry during the year 2009.

1.  ANJANEYULU(Aug. 2009)

Synopsis:

 

Anjaneyulu, an employee in a TV channel, is a happy-go-lucky guy pampered by his father, Krishna Murthy. He comes into contact with a girl, Anjali, who is being chased by rowdies; he saves her and instantly falls in love with her. He continues to follow her and finally she gives in and they get married after a brief misunderstanding. 

  

In the meantime, a creative head, Prabha, is called in order to develop the TV channel and introduce some innovative programs. Anjaneyulu wards off a raid to the studio by Bada and his gang. He learns that they, in association with other ‘big’ people in society, engage in many such deeds, including the death of his own parents. So, he joins the villain gang as Pawan to bring into light all their nefarious activities and eventually puts an end to them. It is during this process that Anjaneyulu breifly loses the trust of his lady love though all is well that ends well. 

 

Review:

 

Although, the film deals with serious elements like mafia and gang wars, director Parasuram, tries to keep up the humour of the audience. Brahmanandam and others provide enough of comedy and in the words of hero Raviteja is “an entertainer with family emotions”. The way in which Ravi Teja finds out the movements of the villian gang is interesting. Music has been scored by Thaman.S and songs are good.

2.  BENDU APPA RAO R.M.P (Oct. 2009)

Synopsis:

 

Bendu Appa Rao is an RMP doctor in a village. He continuously pulls extra money from the people by indulging in activities such as framing them with false ailments or creating illnesses in them. But then, he does this in order to satisfy his brother-in-law’s lust for his dowry money. Meanwhile, Padma, daughter of Raju, the village President, falls in love with Appa Rao.

 

The story takes a turn when Apparao finds an amount of Rs.15 lakhs which is given to him by a dying person to hand it over to the latter’s family. Unable to locate the family, he uses the money for the society’s good and, in the process, also changes his brother-in-law’s mind. Later, he incidentally gets to find out the family and decides to marry Gayathri, the dead man’s sister. In the end, though, AppaRao gets united with his first love, Padma.

 

Review:

 

The film strikes a balance between clean comedy and sentiment and Naresh steals the show with a neat display of both.  Brief comedy episodes by Ali, L.B Sri ram and Dharmavarapu Subrahmanium are included and the film is credited for its pure  entertainment value. Music has been rendered by Koti. Most of the songs have good lyrics and are shot at picturesque locations. One of the songs in the film  ‘Sukumari Chinnadi’  is beautifully picturized in a flower garden. The ‘snake dance’ by Naresh is a highlight to the film. Also, producer RamaNaidu makes a guest appearance as the District Collector.

3.  KICK (May 2009)

Synopsis:

 

The film starts with Naina relating her flashback of her encounter with Kalyan to a cop, Kalyan Krishna.

 

Kalyan is a guy who loves doing things which have enough ‘kick’(thrill) in them. He falls in love with Naina who gets fed up of his ‘kick’ and so leaves him. She goes to Malaysia to meet her parents. In Malaysia, she meets Kalyan Krishna to whom she is supposed to be engaged as fixed by her parents. Here, her flashback story to him ends and she learns that the cop is on a vigil for a person on charges of robbery who turns out to be this same Kalyan. In the end Kalyan is caught in Malaysia by Kalyan Krishna, aided by the Malaysian police. Also, Kalyan manages to win the love of Naina after she comes to know the real reason behind his robberies

 

Review:

 

Though the storyline is lengthy and a bit complicated, all the artistes have expressed themselves in a manner which provokes laughter. Illeana appears glamourous and dominates by her looks and actions. The comedy by Brahmanandam and Ali is commendable.  Shyaam fitted easily in his role as a serious police officer. His attempts at making out the identity of Kalyan with just two minor clues are brilliant. The ending drama of the final robbery by Kalyan  catches the excitement of the audience and the closing scene where we see Ravi Teja as a new police officer is unexpected. Music has been scored by Thaman.S.

4.  VILLAGE LO VINAYAKUDU (Nov. 2009)

Synopsis:

 

A retired army Major, Lakshmipathy’s youngest unmarried daughter, Kavya is a medico. He searches for a suitable match for her with the help of his family friend, Bhaskar. But, she is in love with Karthick who is stout and a teacher by profession. Kavya approaches her father with the marriage proposal, but her father and all other family members are against it, as they do not like the obesity of the boy. They try all kinds of tactics to create a negative impression of Karthick on Kavya.

 

Finally Karthick wins over the entire family with his good-naturedness and gets wedded to Kavya.

 

Review:

 

This ‘family entertainer’ has been taken as a sequel to an earlier film Vinayakudu. The lovely picturisation of a village atmosphere is a notable feature in the film. The innocent looks of Krishnudu suited his character. The performance of all other artistes in the film is average. The film goes in a light vein and provides enough comic relief. Music by Manikanth Kadri is excellent. The songs in the film, including a remix version of an oldie  “Aha Na Pelli” are beautifully taken with a couple of them in a traditional village setting.

For those of you who like to laugh out loud and have no expectations of how a Vinayak or NTR film should be, Adurs offers good amount of entertainment.  The film's greatest strength is its comedy and it may be said that we have never seen a better comedy in any of the previous Vinayak or, for that matter, Junior film in the past.  It is clear that Adurs' writers and the director knew well beforehand that they were dealing with an average plot, involving two twins separated at birth by that favourite old lady, the bhamma in cahoots with the nurse, and the more ordinary premise of one growing up to be valorous and the other a timid one, and instill enough funniness into the proceedings.

To begin with the story, Narasimham (NTR) works for Sayaji Shinde, the cop in-charge of cleansing the city of extortionists.  He intercepts the calls between noted extortion gangs like that of Rasool, knows who they are extracting big bucks from and jumps into action at the right moment, killing the goons in no time.  Naras gradually becomes a menace to Rasool, who plans to exterminate him.  In the meanwhile, in comes Chary (NTR again), with the promising Brahmanandam (he plays Bhattacharya), and tickles our funny bone, scene after scene.  Chary is the assistant to the priest Bhattu, who keeps himself busy conducting death, marriage ceremonies and film muhurats (one such film is Chakkara Takkuva, the remake version of Amitabh Bacchan's Cheeni Kum. Ha ha..), but his most important business is to cosy up to Chandrakala (Nayanatara), with whom he is madly in love.

The two tracks run parallel, as Nayanatara falls for Chary and Sheela keeps flirting Naras.  The director takes care of keeping our interest levels intact by introducing Asish Vidhyarthi, who begins a search operation for Naras, the son of a retired army officer (Nasser).  Of course, Naras has already been the target of Rasool's gang.  As the interval bang draws to a close, Chary is mistaken for Naras and is taken into captive (just as in the recent Bollywood blockbuster Kaminey).  However, in no time, Asish and others catch hold of the real Narasimham.  Why has Asish been on a hunt for NTR?  How are the two brothers going to play a game with the villains, to escape from the vortex they are in?  Answers to these questions are to be found in the second half.

Story wise, Adurs offers nothing new.  In fact, let alone the predictability factor, there is no extra effort taken by the makers to make it oomphier - say, through punchy dialogues and inventive action.  If total absence of mind-blowing lines and single liners is a low point, vintage NTR not coming alive anywhere, excpet in songs, is a disappointment to all his fans.

The film has a high point, but just one.  It's the comedy, which is well executed and performed by Brahmanandam and the Brahmin avatar of NTR.  Our star comedian, Brahmi, rules the roost.  He is simply terrific.  NTR, as his yes-man, is new and fresh, but just not flawless.  Basha (MS Narayana)'s comedy is good too.  The fun factor slumps down in the second half, when Mahesh Manjrekar (playing a heartless villain) and Raghu Babu continue to be befuddled by comedy of confusion.

Nayana and Sheela have nothing to do except shaking legs with NTR.  Dialogues, otherwise good in comedy scenes, are quite poor.  Had NTR repeated a thumping performance and shown some wise dialogue diction as the junior priest (watch him speaking in a whole new diction and you find him inadequate), the film would have not been a nightmare for his fans.

Hype is not always good.  'Namo Venkatesa' was said to be going to touch the pinnacle of comedy before its release, but it turns out that the film has only an ordinary comedy track.  Never matter, because it is enjoyable, even though a little less convincing than we would have wanted.  For yet another time, director Sreenu Vaitla employs his favourite formula, in the hope that it gives him results.  Will it or won't it?  Let's wait and see.  That not all tested formulae are fail-safe is to be borne in mind.

Released on the day of Sankranthi, the film definitely makes a good family entertainer.  Venkatesh, coming with an attitude of full-blown positivity and the main 'villain', Brahmanandam, who derives sadistic pleasures from fooling around the hapless singer-cum-ventriloquist, entertain us till the end.  And, yes, though Venkata Ramana (Venkatesh) is ever-hopeful, there does come a point in his life when he loses all hope and calls it quits with his favourite deity the Lord Venkateswara.  It seems that the power of the "Be Positive" mantra strongly seated in his subconscious brings him the ultimate luck in the end.

To begin with, Mr. Ramana is a worried lot because he has remained 'pellikani Prasadu' all along.  Let alone entering into a wed lock, he is not even finding bride matches, which his father Chandra Mohan explains away with an analogy.  A follower of horoscope, he understands that he should get married in a month's time or he will remain a bachelor forever.  Shift to Paris, where he arrives to perform his art of ventriloquism.  Enter Prasad (Brahmanandam), who decides to play a mind game with Ramana by making him believe that his daughter-in-law Trisha loves him.  Ramana builds castles in the air, but Trisha's conscience grows stricken.  Though she does not like fooling around the good-hearted, clean-minded Ramana, circumstances compel her to do so.

Back in India, Chengal Naidu (Mukesh Rishi) makes arrangements to marry his son off to our heroine, much against her wishes.  Trisha tries to run away, but her efforts fail.  The hapless girl, put under house arrest, seeks the help of Prasad.  The wily Brahmi sketches a plan and enlists Venky in the mission to free Trisha from her blood-thirsty relatives.  What follows next is to be seen on the screen.

Story-wise, though it is not fresh, it doesn't push us to the limits.  The idea should have actually appeared old-fashioned for a big star like Venkatesh.  Vaitla repeats a scene or two from his previous films, which is not bad.  What is surprising is that he doesn't show imagination and throw out those mindless goondas, all of whom Sreenu's heroes manage to make fool of so effortlessly.  Yet another time, the same formula?  Why not come up with something different, Vaitla?

Performances of all lead actors is adequate.  Devi Sri's tunes are just about okay.  Dialogue by Chintapalli Ramana is elevating.  Venky and Trisha strike chemistry.

All in all, go for it with bare minimum expectations and you are sure to get a bang for your money.

entry to their game show "Deala No Deala" if the viewers answer the questions related to vettaikaran correctly.We went to this film as we did not get tickets for Avtar

and 3 idiots and here is the story of the film.

The story is neither different nor a great one. Same old tit for tat kind of thing. Vijay plays the role of 'Police Ravi'. As the name indicates his ambition is to become a

policeman. His mentor is Devaraj IPS , a sincere and honest police officer who does many good things in the city. Vijay keeps the cut out of devaraj in his place, listens

to his interviews and follows his advice and he is waiting for this plus two examination results ( which he has failed 3 or 4 times already ). Luckily vijay clears his plus

two exams and tells his father to get admission in the same college where his mentor devaraj studied.

 

 

He got admission in the college in chennai and he starts from tuticorin. While walking in the platform, he collides with Suseela ( Anushka ) and love at first sight happens

to him. While colliding one of her bangles comes to vijay. He is saying to his friend that he had imagined marrying and two kids ( one girl and one boy ) are born to them.

He boards the train and surprised to see anushka in the same compartment. Later he cames to know that anushka is not travelling in the train but his grandmother

( Actress Sukumari ).

 

On the first day of this college, while the lady lecturer was taking classes, a student named Uma comes late for the college and the lecturer scolds her for coming late. At that

time, some workers are making sound outside the room and the lecturer closes the windows as that sound is disturbing the class.Uma tells her neighbour that fresh air is not

coming and she is feeling difficult. On seeing this, lecturer scolds badly about the character of Uma. On seeing this, vijay opens the windows of the room and requests the

workers to stop the work for couple of hours as that is the first day of their college.Vijay tells the lecturer that uneducated people listens when we speak to them with affection.

But we the educated people judges badly about a person without actually knowing them.  Lecturer says sorry to uma and students appreciates vijay's act.

 

 

Vijay is going to uma's house. Her father runs a travels. Vijay rents an auto from her father to earn money for this studies. ( His mentor devaraj also was driving auto and he

studied with that earning ). He cannot forget anushka. One day he is seeing her waiting for a bus in the bus stop.Vijay voluntarily takes her in his auto to her house.Anushka's

grandma invites vijay to the house and offers him snacks. Anushka is telling her grandma that she will hit the guy who stole her golden bangles. On hearing this, vijay gives the

bangle to anushka and says it accidentally came to him and he is keeping it in remembrance of her. Like this vijay's life is going smoothly. Meanwhile anusha is also impressed

with vijay after he finds out the stolen bike of her.

 

One day as vijay is regulating the traffic voluntarily, he stops the vehicle of Chella, son of local don Vedachalam who controls the entire chennai.That's the first meeting of

chella and vijay. Though vijay didn't see chella, chella gets angry with vijay for stopping his vehicle and he wants to kill him.Chella is a womanizer and wants to have the girl

he likes even if the girl is already married.

 

Vijay is going to uma's house to find out why she has not attended the college for past few days. Her father asks vijay to return the auto and tells him to see someother person.

Vijay asks her father why but he is not agreeing to disclose and says that uma has gone out of city. At that time uma comes from her house with a bag in her hands. Uma tells

vijay that the rowdy chella wants her. Vijay goes to chella's place along with uma and fights with chella.Chella suffers heavy injuries and admitted in hospital. Doctor says it

will take one month to recover.

 

Vijay was arrested by inspector ( Shayaji shinde ) for keeping heroine in his room. Anushka sees vijay in jail and tells him that she will get him out of jail.She comes to know

that vijay's mentor devaraj is not in delhi but in a bungalow in velachery. She goes to his house surpassing security and requests devaraj to help vijay and explains how vijay

admires devaraj. Devaraj is drinking wine and tells anushka that he won't provide any support. Anushka scolds him and leaves the place. Meanwhile shayaji shinde plans to

kill vijay in an encounter by swapping the file of vijay with a criminal and they are going in a jeep in a steep road. Vijay escapes from that place and jumps in a waterfall.

 

After vijay escapes, he goes straightaway to devaraj's house and tells him that how he admired him but he was not a good police officer. Then devaraj tells him that he lost his

wife ,children and his eye sight as well after arresting chella's men. Then they both decide to take revenge. Vijay comes to the house of vedachalam.Vedachalam shows vijay all

the properties he is having and says that vijay should be a slave for him till his life as a punishment for beating his son, chella.

 

Vijay starts a private detective agency with the help of devaraj and starts destroying vedachalam's wealth one by one. As a revenge vedachalam kills vijay's friend and sends him

the body packed in a box. Vijay gets more angry with this and destroys his jewellery, chitfund, building construction etc. Vijay also kills chella by making his car drown in a river

as chella doesn't know swimming.Vedachalam was shocked after chella's death and thinks how to destroy vijay. Finally he decides to become a minister and calls the party

leaders that he wants to become a minister and he will give how much ever money needed for that.

 

Vedachalam is getting ready to sworn in as minister and as he is about to start from his tea stall, vijay comes there. He hits everybody down and finally as he nears vedachalam,

he is caught by police.At that time vijay sees devaraj standing in the crowd with a gun in his hand. As devaraj is blind, vijay signals him by telling to put the siren of the car so

that devaraj can hear where the car is placed.When vedachalam opens the door of the car, vijay shouts minister has started and devaraj triggers the bullet. At the same time,

vedhachalam's man is having gun in his hand aiming vijay. So everybody thinks that vedachalam's man had killed vedachalam and that's the end of the movie as well.

Comments:

Vijay tried to imitate superstar Rajinikanth by following his style, talk etc. But he failed to succeed in that as it looks very artificial. The only thing that is good in this film is the

songs.All the songs are good especially 'Chinna thamarai', 'Karikalan' and 'Puli urumudhu'. The film can be watched once.
