Main reason for Toothache
Toothache starts if the hard enamel is broken down by caries. Caries is the disease that attacks teeth, forming holes in the hard enamel. It is caused by the action of bacteria.
Tooth decay makes the mouth smell bad and teeth look dirty.
Bacteria feed on sweet food stuck to the tooth. The acid they produce dissolves the enamel. If the enamel is not repaired by the dentist the acid will eat through dentine.
If the decay reaches to the pulp cavity and its nerves endings, tooth will start to hurt. Bacteria from the mouth cam also enter the pulp cavity. This can cause an infection in the root which may result in a painful, pus filled abscess.
