Teeth are herd, strong, bony structures fixed firmly in the upper and lower jaws.

b) canine
c) premolar
d) molar
Importance of teeth
Teeth are necessary to chew the food thoroughly. The well chewed food is digested easily. They add to the beauty and expression of our face. Imagine your face without the teeth in your mouth. It would become sunken. Teeth also help us to speak clearly.
Types of teeth
During one’s life time, each person gets to sets of teeth. They are:-
A) milk teeth or temporary teeth
B) the permanent teeth
Milk teeth are 20 in number. By the time called is 12-13 years old, all permanent teeth make their appearance. The permanent teeth are 32 in number. There are three basic types of teeth:-
a) incisors: they are also called cutting teeth
b) canines: they are called tearing teeth
c) Pre-molars and molars: they are called grinding teeth.
Care of teeth
We should take special care of teeth
- we should brush the teeth daily
- we should massage the gums with our thumb and fingers
- brushing of teeth should be done twice a day
- we should not eat anything at night after brushing the teeth
- we must wash our teeth after every meal
- we should also exercise our gums by eating fibrous foods
- avoid too hot and too cold foods
If the teeth are not cleaned properly, a foul smell starts coming from the mouth. They become weak and black in color. Diseased teeth also cause indigestion and stomach troubles. Gums become swollen. The teeth may fall.
