To begin with let me tell that gone are the days when women were confined to the four walls of the houses. Today they play a positive and a constructive role in all the spheres of life and walk shoulder to shoulder with the men. The role played by a woman during her lifetime can be divided into three distinct phases :- as a daughter, a wife and a mother.
Let me start a girl's role as a daughter, A daughter is always a pleasent, encouraging, inspiring and an enchanting companion for one and all in the family. From the very beginning she starts participating in the household duties, helping her mother and taking care of the younger brothers and sisters. Imagine a father coughing in the bed. His sons are busy in the ground preparing for inter-school cricket tournament. At this time it is the girl who runs to the father with a glass of water and tablets. When the tablets have gone down through his rough throat, it is the caressing hand of the daughter that rests on the troubled head of the father and brings back the smile on his face.
Daughters are like companions to their mothers - someone to sigh with, someone to cry with and to be through smiles and woes. They flood the entire house with a pool of laughter and giggles, smiles, chats and sharing with their beloved ones. Also their charming and attractive nature cannot be denied. Think of any gathering in a house. Even in a male dominated party its always the entry of a smart girl that brings life to the party and electrifies the whole atmosphere.
As a wife also she plays a very significant role in her husband's life. An old saying goes that behind every successful man stands a woman telling him he's wrong, whenever he makes some mistake. A wife is there not only to perform her domestic duties but is also a companion for her husband throughout his life. In english language, the word HOME simply means a dwelling place. But it's the wife who has changed the whole concept of the word 'home'. For every man today it means a place where his warmest affections, his dearest ambitions and his tenderest memories are centred.
The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. This quotation goes a long way in explaining the real importance of a mother. it is the mother who has the greatest influence on the child. A child learns its first lessons at its mother's knee. The father is away from home at his work most of the day. So what a child does in the world is largely determined by what the mother did for the children when they were little kids. Thus she indirectly governs the destiny of the race. it is true that if you educate a man you educate one individual but if you educate a woman you educate a whole family.
