Care of eyes
The eyes help us to see. They are the light of life. They are wonderful creation of nature. They are a master –piece of delicacy. The upper and lower eye –lids with the eye-lashes keep off dust and other flying particles in the air from entering into the eyes. The eyes need special care throughout life. The sight may be adversely affected by improper exercise, poor or excessive light or by prolonged close work.
The most common defects of the eye are long and short-sight. Some of the children are seen suffering from squinting of eyes. Reading, embroidery, drawing and the like should never be done by children continuously for long periods. Good and proper light is always necessary. Eyes should be splashed with cold water many times a day. Sound sleep serves as a tonic for the eyes. Short sight may be caused by allowing children to read with the books close to their eyes while lying in bed.
In addition to good and proper lighting, proper posture is also necessary. We should never bend our body while reading or writing. Proper distance and angle between the books and the eyes is of prime importance. We should never wipe our eyes with handkerchiefs and towels used by others. For reading and writing, light should come from over the left shoulder and behind. Milk, green vegetables and fruits are essential to preserve good sight. In case of a difficulty while reading or writing, an optician should be consulted immediately.
Care ears
Next to the eye, the ear is an important sense organ of the body. Our ears are also very delicate and need special care to be taken of. We should never prick our ear-canal with a pin, match-stick or any foreign object. Should wax accumulate in the ear, it should be left to a doctor to remove it. Ears should be protected from hard blows. Blowing the nose very hard may cause damage our ears. In case of running of ear, an E.N.T. doctor should be consulted immediately.
