The bachelor in dental surgery is a 4+1 years course. In total it's 5 year course. It includes 4 years study and 1 year intership,according to the Indian dental association. It's an A grade course. Student needs to have 80 % in his 12th board exams. It should include subjects like physics, biology and chemistry. Now a days there are many private collages available which gives admission at low percentage also.
The 1st two years of course mainly focus on theory part. It's called pre clinical studies. The first year subjects are Human anatomy, physiology & biochemistry and D.A.D.H . The D.A.D.H stands for Dental Anatomy & Dental Histology. The second year subjects are pharmacology, microbiology & pathology and Dental materials.
The third and fourth year mainly focuses on clinical studies. Means students have to work on real patients under the observations of professional M.D.S staff. In these two years students learns main part of the course. That is how to handle real patients. In these year they need to study subjects like oral pathology, general medicine and general surgery.
The final fifth year is the internship time. In this year the students have to work in a hospital and they also get salary for the work. In the end of the year hospital provides an internship certificate which we have to submit in I.D.A and they provide us the degree.
This course is very time consuming but very important to become a dentist. This course gives you all basic knowledge of M.B.B.S . But student can not do general practice after completion. They can only practice as dentist.
After the completion of B.D.S , student can also do the M.D.S in any dental fields. Now a days dentistry is very popular for cosmetic dentistry. In foreign countries it is highly demanded. So after completing B.D.S , most of the student prefer to practice in foreign countries.
