For Home users who want to automate the house hold appliances through PC. The pc based home automation is an embedded standalone application that allows the users to control, manage and automate the house hold devices using their personal computer.
Unlike manual controlling of home, this application provides an easy and secure way to control and monitor the home appliances even if the user is not present at home with the help of PC, software and sensors it automatically control the electronic devices.
The users of home automation system can control the home appliances like surveillance, water sprinkling and water tank control, call recording, temperature control, light control by using computer also scheduling can be done. The application will provide an interface for the users with some options so that the users can select an option and send a signal to control the speed of fans, switch on/off the lights. The microcontroller senses the signal and controls the fans and lights. The application allows only authorized users to access the system and control the appliances.
- Here for User authentication user login to the system with a password. System asks for authentication in order to connect the home through pc.
- After Logging into the system, system automatically transforms the user login screen into settings. Firstly the default settings will present and user can change the settings and schedules after that he saves the settings.
- Head up display provides the graphical ON/OFF commands through graphical buttons so that Home user can easily interact and control the devices. Screen contains one touch buttons which are easy performing required user task.
- Embedded kit is also authenticated with the user password in order avoid theft.
Home user must be signed in and embedded kit must Connected to pc.
- Password Validations: If Home user enters the wrong password for 3 times the system automatically exits.
- Embedded Kit Connection: After, Home user authenticated system checks for connection between personal computer and embedded kit with same password.
User roles and access control:
- User must have a minimum knowledge in computer basics.
- User continuously turns on the computer for running scheduler.
- User must verify the power connection before operating the system.
- The standalone application should support the case of user inputs (one or more responses at a time). (Reliability and Supportability)
- The interface should be very fast. (Performance)
- The system should be available 24 X 7. (Reliability/ availability).

- Core parts of the Home computerization are PC and a microcontroller. According to the application software PC transmits the command to micro controller via RS232 interface. Microcontroller processes the commands and takes necessary action to the events just like switching a light, call recording, surveillance and fans. Relays are used for isolating the high voltage devices like fans and low voltages devices such as microcontroller.
As a system it as both advantages and disadvantages, coming to the disadvantages the system fails when power or network fails or if the electronic circuits are damaged due to the power fluctuations.
Today’s existing system controls the household appliances manually. Today’s system provides us turn on and off lights or fans and other controlling of the house hold devices manually. Some times there may be a chance of forgetting to turn off the lights;fans and other house hold devices which is a problem for the user.
But by considering PC BASED HOME AUTOMATION, everything can be controlled by a signal.
