What is the quality of good tester?

First of all, a tester is a GOOD OBSERVER. He should process the following.

1) Test to break attitude - Break application to ensure it does not break in customer end, thinking out of box.

2) Ability to think as customer's point of view.

3) A strong desire for quality.

4) Gives more attention to minor details. Should not compromise anything.   

5) Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical people.

6) Most important, Judgement skills, like.

- focusing need, priority and saverity,

- what functionality need to test first?

-Identification of risk areas in application.

- When time limit for testing then anaylsing the importance what need to be tested.

-Effective Bug Reporting.

- Decision about when to stop testing.

- Should be good at in folloing documents:

1) SRS - Software Requirement Specifications.     

2) FS - Functional Specification.

3) BRD/BRS - Bussiness Requirement Docs/Specification.

4) URS - User Requirement Specification.

5) Use Cases.

Understand the the correct meaning of QA & Testing terms because misunderstanding  creates lot of problems in day to day reviews and walkthroughs in Software Development Life Cycle.

There are so many people in the software testing or QA who dont know the difference between Bug & Issue because of that so many of them create problems.

Issue: The term 'issue' does not really indicate that there is a problem in developer's code. It is becoming the standard in software testing proccess to indicate problem in software. Issue can be resoved in many ways  because of any reason ; it will not always fault by the developers. Mostly, because of this reason, developers like the term "issue" rather then "bug". The term bug surely indicate that there is problem in developer's code.

Depending on its nature, issue can be solved in many ways. If it is osftware bug it goes to developer to correct the code and problem. If it is due to wrong & improper requirement gathering then it goes to customer or marketing department to correct the requirement. If the issue caused by bad configuration in the testing computer, it will assign to appropriate hardware representative to coreect the configuration. The issue can be rejected by the testing managers or  developers as sometimes tester have created that issue due to their improper workability about the how software or application works.

Same way there are lot differences between the QA people and Testing People......wil come with that as soon as possible.
