Goa police has remanded Tarun Tejpal for 6 days. He has spent his first night in the cell along with two others accused for murder and another accused for anti social activities.

So finally he is getting what he deserved....Now there will be the long long process of the case coming for a hearing !

Obviously Tarun Tejpal is a serious offender. Even consensual affairs by a middle aged man with a girl as yoing as his daughter is a matter of scorn and dismay. He exposed others. Now he himself stands exposed.

My own personal opinion is that Shoma Chaudhury handled it badly. She could have handled it better by taking legal advice and showing more sympathy towards the girl. They could have even come to a compromise with Tejpal given a stern warning ! Now , because of this episode Tehelka itself has crumbled and so many people are hit and the episode has gone on to become the scandal of the year...Probably with some mature handling all this could have been avoided.

Soma Chaudhary could probably not have done better. Tarun Tejpal is her boss. We may make any comment being in safe position but she was in a very odd situation.

Probably ! But from what I saw, she was so arrogant and one sided which is what made matters worse since the media turned totally against them...

She formed a comittee as required by law. What she did was her compulsion. She could also take a better course but in such matters, only concerned person has to decide everything in a short period. It is easy to say afterwards and from safe distance as to what is right or wriong. But it is more difficult to decide ar spur of moment. Soma Chaudhary would obviously not have understood what was in store for her and her comapny
Committee should have been formed earlier, it is as per Sharada case in SC, where every organization had to form ladies grievances redressal committee from outside members, what she did she formed after the incident. Then she reached to every news channels supporting her ex boss. She should think back and it must be some thing above post, as she herself one of the most respected member of women rights, still there is time, she can recover, if she goes in correct directions.

This committee is mandatory. In fact, in the very early stages of the case, Kiran Bedi was enquiring about the presence of Ladies grievances redressal committeeIn Tehelka office.

Apparently they did not have any ! They probably thought they were above all that ...A few successful sting operations and the blessing of politicians had made them highly arrogant, that was the whole problem with Tehelka team !

That myth that they are above all has been busted .Now the staff too realized that Tehelka has been completed cornered and many are leaving Tehelka one after another.
After the remand, Tarun Tejpal broke. Of course he has been allowed to get home made food.

You are talking about home-made food! He has been allowed a home-made bed too and this what sets us apart from the practices of civilized countries. Our judiciary has set different standards for under-trials. This is frighteningly awful. If I am caught on a criminal offence with no access to food and bed I like, I would be made to lie on the floor and Tarun Tejpal ,a millionaire or billionaire would enjoy all comforts befitting his economic status!! And we are made to learn that all are equal in the eye of law!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

This country of ours calling itself a democracy is nothing but a sham in many respects. There atre different set of laws for different kinds of people...so where does democracy come in ?

I think it is not democracy but the that hoary principle of equality before law. I know that an under-trial is not one against whom guilt has been established but there should be fairness in this regard. If Tejpals, Laloos are allowed luxury that should be allowed to one and all!!

Exactly ! Why do they need to have VIP cells at all? a criminal is a criminal no matter from what starta of society he comes from.In fact a VIP criminal is even more dangerous since he does it inspite of being placed in an eminent position..

As I said in the other thread crime and punishments are meant for others and non- loyals.Jagan Mohan Reddy son of Rajasakhar reddy, a No 1 accused in 13 cases is scotfree after an eyewash stint in The jail. He's getting permissions to roam around the country and meet all the people including Rashtrapati.

Yes I see him speaking to the medai even making speeches, what kind of a country is this ? I read a report about a post man ounished for 26 years apparently on a charge of having stolen 57 rupees and then now proved to be innocent and these people all looting the country from left to right ...The problem is that it is starting right from top from Madame herself so who is to bell the cat ?

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

What we need is that all authorities should strictly comply with rules and regulations according to jail manual or other law. Possibly the authorities have also to consider the life style of the concerned person and health condition while giving him certain facilities. If they are doing everything according to rules, we cannot question.

I think that those who have barest of knowledge of what goes on in Indian jails, are aware how rules and regulations are bent and twisted to suit the interests of the powerful. If we are to ensure the same living conditions that a particular undertrial is used to, what is the point in keeping him or her in jail??

Some adjustment has to be made for peculiar condition of a jail inmate. Like outer world, jail also needs different services. That is why prisoners are given different tasks to do accoridng to their ability. For example, in Arushi case, Dr. Talwar is given job of helping hospital doctors whereas his wife will be teaching. Lalu yadav has been given task of teaching politics.

I am not aware of any such practice in other countries and if it is done on the strength of jail manual we need to have a hard look at them, it does seriously compromises with the Constitutional guarantee of equality before law. Although India we see this perverse phenomenon of cases where some are made more or less equal than others!!! About Lalu read a report in the Telegraph that he was given the job of a gardener!! If he is allowed to teach politics, God help us!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:
Tarun Tejpal has raised another issue of 'flirtation'. Is consesnual flirtation is same as sexual harassment. He says that his case is such. Now somebody takes initiative even in 'flirtation'. Is the very initiative 'sexual harassment' or continuing with such flirtation even after negative response will be so considered.

How to prove it as "sexual harassment" or "flitration", he admits through email, and Goan police is summoning three witnesses.

http://mohanmekap.com/

Tarun Tejpal and his defence lawyers are trying every trick in the trade to see that he comes out of it.But his initial mail is a strong evidence against him which he simply cannot do away with. He may of course get some congess men to back him especially since now it is well known that his paper was funded by Congress bigwigs....This is precisely why he wanted his case to be shifted out of Goa to a place where there is congress government !

This is clever trick. He cannot straightway deny any act of sexual nature. All that he can do is to dilute saying that theis is just consensul or flirtation.

Close circuit camera before and after lifts prove forceful act of Tejpal, and I am sure the way Goa police shows professionalism in this case, will go in right direction to find out the truth.
