The Naxal have gunned down 75 security personnel. 72 were CRPF personnel, one of them was a head constable with the local police.

Its time to deal with them severely. NO excuses. :(
Although Naxals use violent means, they normally kill the police forces fighting against them or the suspected police informers. The terrorist groups like Laskare Tayaba kill common men and terrorize them.
The Naxals should come to main stream. As long as there is scope for changing the political and social system by peaceful means, they should avail of such opportunity.
The carnage that these so called friends of the poor have perpetrated, has once again exposed their true blood-thirsty character and yet the Home Minister keeps on talking in reconciliatory terms!!
Chinmoy- They have killed the police that was sent to fight them. So this is natural. They are not at fault for this. But by such temporary set back to police, naxals cannot succeed. They must shed their self destruction path and avail opportunity to change society by peaceful means and by ballet instead of bullet. Ultimately, power is with people and so they should organize people for transition to just society.
The Naxalite problem is not a new and what we should be concerning ourselves with is what government has been doing about it. They have taken advantage of the governmental apathy towards developmental issues in some of the backward regions of the country which are fertile grounds for Naxalites.You are absolutely correct that in a democratic setup they have no place and that should be put across to them very clearly and ruthlessly.
Yeah.. and now the count turned to be 83 from 75...... Was the government capable of handling the situation???
@Deepti

This menace can be tackled provided the government has will to do so.Let me make it very clear as I did in one of articles titled"Why Adivasis are up in arms?" that it should not be viewed as a pure law and order problem.It has a sociological dimension. As lack of development is one of the principal reasons the governemnts - both the Union and State - have to speed up the development in the Naxal-infested regions.But before any such development initiative is undertaken the Maoist have to be defeated fair and square!
Yes chinmoy. Government should make its process fast to make the development soon, so that such disasters never occur again!
Chinmoy has rightly stated that police action and development work both are necessary simultaneously. It is necessary to convince the people that remedy for their economic and social problems lies in the democratic set up.
maoists are hitting strong against the law.. Nation's security is having great problems.. We have to take strong actions to overcome present situation and to make it never happen again..
Jobin- The problem is that Naxal problem affects many states. There is lack of proper coordination between states and the center. The problems can be solved only by proper coordinated and team work by the state governments and center and also steps taken for development in the affected area.

Very very serious and strong decisions should be taken by Government.
Deepti- The Government always talks of strong action but this is mere talk. apart from lack of coordination between various state governments and the center, there is neither swiftness nor secrecy. The Operation Green Hunt was well known to all and movement of security forces was well in knowledge of all and this was being telecast. On the other hands, Maoists act more swiftly, smartly and maintain secrecy of their actions. Without precise plans, coordinated efforts and secrecy of action, there can be no genuine fight against the Maoists.
Gulshan, you are absolutely right in pinpointing it.It is sheer malgovernance which is at the root of it!Today I was reading somewhere that a chunk of the funds released under NREGS is seized upon by the Maoists to sustain their movement!!
Yes chinmoy. I also today read about sources of funds raised by Maoists. The issue is that most govt. officials including police are corrupt and lethargic. That is why they are unable to fight against Maoists.

The security personnel are getting a very raw deal. The police personnel killed in action are not officially considers as 'martyrs' unlike army personnel who are give martyr status even if killed in internal disturbances. Moreover, the compensation package paid to police personnel is much less than that given to families of army persons. Also the compensation package differs from state to state.
In this connection, the fate of informers of intelligence agencies is very pitiable. The informers risk their lives to gather crucial information on insurgency as well as foreign danger. They are not even recognized as they work secretly. They are not even regular employees. Even if caught as prisoner by another country while performing their patriotic job, they are made to suffer in foreign jail as nobody even recognizes them. There have been many such cases.
@Gulshan

You have done well to highlight the plight of this section of security forces who deserve a much better deal.
