I mean a high-school in Panchayat,
A graduate in assemblies and in corporations. A qualified professional as a chief minister.
A postgraduate in Parliament
A professional as a minister
A prominent politician and specialist as head of state and prime-ministerial post
you think so or you think that we should carry on as we are doing right now.

Yes, absolutely right!!!
He should have good educational qualification.

I think, most ministers from Kerala have a barrister degree in hand.
Educational qualifications do not make better politicians. Governments are run by political parties. It is best to leave it to their discretion to select suitable candidates for elective posts. The actual work is done by bureaucrats who are well qualified.
Would you prefer a politician who knows his job and educated or would you go for a hard core politician who is a so called politician because he knows how to win, while it comes to choose out of these two? I would certainly take a Akhilesh over Mulayam any day.
I think you have a point here! There used to be times immediately after Independence that leave alone central ministers all our MPs were quite educated. But deviation of it took place in the late sixties and thereafter. An uneducated person is thoroughly unfit to represent us and I hope this trend reverses. What passed on in the name of debates in legislatures is shameful and we must hang our heads in shame!!
They do not know even basics of etiquette, our so called representatives are basically musclemen, with a few exceptions. Most of them are ready to roll their sleeves up at the drop of a hat.

100% correct.
Elected candidates are actually joining the government service for salary. For each government job, a minimum qualification is needed. So, to work for the country also, minimum qualification is needed.
I think, a written test should also be conducted. :woohoo:

I have told about Pudicherry educational minister in some other thread. I am repeating it here. He don't even have an SSLC degree in hand, yet he is the educational minister of the state. Some days before, he send another person to write SSLC exam for him....and that person was caught...
Still now, I can't stop laughing :P

Not only from Kerala but many of the supreme court advocates are there in parliament. For innstance, Chidambaram, Jaishankar Prasad, Kapil Sibbal, leader of the opposion in Rajya sabha and many more but there are very few if you count them over all and compare to uneducated ones.

Each and every state has a qualified people. How can you say there is no one is educated in some area??
Most of our representatives in parliament and legislatures have good education qualifications and other attributes. A member in a post above referred to Akhiklesh. Akhilesh has been sent to his present position even though there are no prescribed qualifications. The political parties and electors know as to who suits for political posts. In fact, education level of of parliamentarians and legislators is constantly going up. Let us not bring rigidity in the system. Unlike bureaucrat, a politician has no rigid job. A politician may be allotted any ministry- agriculture, defence, home, Industries, foreign affairs and so on. He cannot be expected to possess all qualifications. On the other hand, the bureaucrats have fixed jobs. An IPS officer will be always in police or security departments. An expert in finance will be in economic jobs like R.B.I., Min of Finance etc.
Every where corruption and many educated people are not interested in politics.50% 60% polling proves it.
But, a person who doesn't have an SSLC, can he be educational minister? How can a illiterate person rule educational department of the whole state? Can he make suitable decisions?

Political parties that field candidates know who suits what. We vote candidates not for their individual worth but on party symbols. If you bother so much about prescribing qualifications, there is no need for elections at all. Just promote the bureaucrats to ministerial jobs.
But It is my opinion that a candidate should be given more importance than a party symbol,Who will work for us,for general public. He may be from any party.
I don't say only intellectual fellows should be admitted to Parliament. Yet, they should at least have any degree in hand

Degree? No he/she must know how to use his knowledge in best way, he should behave like an educated one.
The central issue is surely not that educated people or bureaucrats should be inducted into politics or not rather the paramount need is to ensure that our legislators are enlightened enough to uphold the demanding standards of the job. Political skills can't be learned in the vaccuum or through some black or white magic!!! True education is supposed to inculcate certain values.

Yet...educational qualification is important. Education gives many things to us. It help us to behave in a more cultural way, sure.
In present conditions, illiterate person means he doesn't know even basics.
Although it is equally true that degrees and true education are not synonymous!
