It is reported that children treat elderly shabbily. Usually, dispute is about property. Happily, I have neither property nor children and so have no fear of shabby treatment. .

Again this problem of maltreatment with elders is not new and is on the rise. Looking at the growing numbers old age homes are an indicator of the same. It is very sad that parents suffer misbehavior at the hands of their own children. Parents give unconditional love to their children and few unfortunate ones get ill-treatment from their kins.

It's not always the children who Ill treat their parents. It's the other way round also. Some elderly people are very particular about having their own way even in old age. Some cannot adjust with the younger people's modern life style.some do not tolerate the daughter in law's ways of doing household chores. Some are even create rifts between the family members.
And it's also not true that all the children I'll treat the perents for property. May be in some cases.

Yes, this is yet another facet of the same coin which people usually over look. Very true..at times...infact numerous times...elderly people get away by saying they cannot change at this age and hence the younger generation should make peace with their ways and stay with it. This behavior becomes a bottle neck in the smooth functioning of the family and ultimately breaks.

Some old people who are habituated to rise up early in the morning force the entire household to wake up and insist on making their Puja material ready. They cannot adjust with the existing conditions and create a scene.
It is purely depends upon the understanding between the generations. World is not as same as they lived in their young age. If parents believe their children they will never put their parents in old age homes. Young generation also must understand the difficulty that comes in old age. Nowadays no body is ready to walk all people likes to go in vehicle. so we are now suffering from back pain, neck pain etc... We should compare it with the old people and should think how they are suffering now. One real fact behind this is they are very active and have more strength comparing with us. Young generations cannot able to cope up with this one. If older people say anything we are getting anger and shouting them because of not having that much exercise in our day to day life.

Emancipated elders who accept changes in tune with the times are rare.such elders male or female never pose problems anywhere. They act as guides, mentors and philosophers to the family. They are a big asset.

Suggestion and advice is best when it comes in bits and one by one..more often than not older generation have to advise on everything and question everything the younger generation plan to do, hence the power struggle happens..and such power struggles have devastated many a families. Everybody can function well if certain amount of breathing space is given to each generation, every member of a family.

Yes some elderly people often tend to forget that their children have grown up to be adults now and they too have their own point of view which can also be right. Some old people believe that they are always right and often tend to thrust their judgement and decisions on the younger generation. One should understand that time is changing and new things and ideas are coming in and not all are wrong. So it is wise for elderly people to also embrace these new changes.

Yes...difference of opinion is expected, also different perspective give us an opprotunity to look at a thing in a new way, but imposing one's views on other is definitely not welcome.
