We have had a small incident with the naxalites yesterday in our district where a group of naxalites came knocking on the doors of a social worker and an official named Bhat, at night time .When he refused to open the door telling them that they could speak during day time, they poured petrol over his car and a motor byke which was kept outside in the compound and left.the car was fully burnt...Bha is a good worker and honest trying to rehabilitate the tribals which was not liked by the naxalites ..

Naxalites will never be happy if someone tries to rehabilitate the tribals. Because Naxalites don't want to lose the the grip on the tribals . The tribals are their strength and support.

Thats true, we have been having some problems with them of late. The commando forces are no doubt doing a great job , but the problem is with some of the misguided locals who support them.

It's due to the tribal support, the combing operations are miserably failing. Tribals inform and alert the Naxalites whenever there is a search party or combing operations arrive before hand because they are familiar with the jungle terrain. If a Naxalite is hidden by the tribals, god also cannot locate their hide out.

If this is true, Maoist are real ruler there. They have a parallel govt. In these circumstances, who will vote?

It's the situation in Chhattis garh. Until recently Naxalites were operating from the border districts of Andhra and Odisha. Due to urbanization and due to effective police operations Naxalites were forced out of these havens. Now Chhattis garh jungle regions are their newest haven.
I'm a resident of one of the border districts of AP and Odisha. Of course these are Naxalite free areas

It is not possible to not using indelible ink. Now it is duty of government to assured security of voters.

How long govt. can give security. If I go to polling booth and vote, Maoist may not punish me immediately. But they can remember that I voted. They may kill me even month later. Also they may not kill but harass, taunt or beat me whenever they get opportunity. That is why people cannot annoy them. Indelible ink identifies the voter. If this ink is not used, voter may say that he did not vote.

Even if the use of indelible ink is stopped for the safety of a few, this will open flood gates to several other evils, which the unscrupulous anti social elements use for their advantage. A fool proof method has to be introduced..

It is right that it is not possible to give security to all voters for long time. It is also right that if use of indelible ink is stopped than politicians and anti social elements will took its benefits. In Kashmir peoples are voting is large number and they also have fear of terrorists. So it example before government to took some action.

Do you suggest that all forests be cut and area urbanized so as to eradicate naxalism/ Maoism.

Not before the tribals are shown a livelihood. Because practically the entire livelihood of these locals are the forests. Another aspect of Naxal popularity is naxals allow these tribals for using the jungles as they wish. Whereas, government imposed laws against tree felling. If they are shown an alternative livelihood,I'm sure tribals will not support the Naxals.

But this should be supplemented by effective policing also. There should police posts in more number so that the tribals can feel secure..

In this respect AP has done a commendable job. Naxalites are surrendering to the police because they lost the support of the tribals. Additionally, surrendered Naxalites were effectively rehabilated. Most of them joined the mainstream and leading normal lives.

I remember that Andhra Pradesh Govt. had entered in talk with naxalites and also did a lot to solve the issue. Similar action needs be taken at other places.

You are right. AP invited the most wanted Naxalites for a free dialoge. Because of these interactions both the parties could understand each others real needs without any third party. And the present rehabilitation programme which proved to be successful was the outcome of those earlier interactions.

President should declare emergency rule in Chattisgarh.

That means Maoist have better control over citizen of that particular area compared to government. Why is it so that people of this country have to fear from terrorists groups and our government cannot control them effectively. Why is it going on for such a long time since it started as soon as this country liberated from the foreign invaders? It has a simple reason, we as people never stood against them unitedly but let our fight go out of our hands and our governments did not care a bit. They kept their roles limited to compensations.

Govt certainly doesn't have control on this area. That's why they are able to stand even against stiff para military actions. Even the police or election officials fear to enter these areas because of the strong support of the local tribals. The jungle terrain offers all the protection plus the local support added much strength to Naxalites.
People are voting freely, and in large numbers in Chattishgarh, even at the point of bullet they want to participate in franchise exercise.
Jarkhand polls are not event less. Polling going on amidst Maoist attacks on Police. There are 40 booths in Chattisgarh wherein not a single vote was polled.

This is bad news.

But overall polling is good one. Government claimed that 70% voters votes in are where maosits are active.
It is nice that despite call for boycott, there is massive voting in Chhatisgarh. Let us close this topic now.
