Its not about being rich or poor. When you are poor, you run after money and when you are rich, you still run after money. The reason is that you are not satisfied with what you have. There are numerous things about your life that you want to change. You are constantly looking for improvements in your life and for that you need more money. Once you get what you want, you will demand even more and again, for that you will need money, even more money. There is no end to this running after money. This is a vicious circle which holds good no matter whether you are rich or poor. This goes on to establish the fact that money is not what you need, rather you need something called contentment. This 'running' will come to an end and you will be actually happy in life if and only if you are content with what you have.
The view that youth are running after money and materialistic in order to live a stylish way of life is equally wrong.Do you expect that an 18 years old youth dress or behave like an 81 years old grandpa ? Or can we tolerate an 81 years old man behave like a youth and follow his life style and way of living?
One thing we should not forget.Only a handful of youth who earn a decent income as well as youth born with silver spoon alone care for style.Go to star hotels; wear jeans; go to night clubs; but the youth who have a low income, eat in roadside running canteen;some of them consume country liquor because it is cheap;they do not know what is a star hotel; what is style;they too fall in love but their style of getting married is a simple marriage in a temple or simply eloping with his lover;
This group discussion, I am sorry to say, is speaking about the life style of a few handful of youth who are rich. They are not parameters to decide the the general condition of youth most of whom are wallowing in poverty.
No matter rich or poor, the basic needs of all human beings are the same. Of course there are people who are not able to fulfill their basic needs and they have no way but to run after money. But other than the basic needs, there are people who want more from life and to accomplish more they need more money. To have it they run after it, even if they have loads of it. It holds good for those also who don't have any of it. Agree or not, majority of people are running after money.
Its not that these people are out of the world or they don't have any aim in life or for that matter, they are not a part of the society or contribute towards its development. Its absolutely not that. The only thing is that they have goals and aims in life which are above and much bigger than just the acquisition of wealth and material pleasures for the betterment of their own life and that of their family.
Only these people can be selfless enough to do more than just running after money. These people can actually add more value to the society and the country than others as they are not occupied with thoughts and efforts which are self centered to a great extent. Such people can be the real contributors, no matter old or young, poor or rich. They can be politicians, they can be social workers, doctors, scientists, engineers, teachers and so on. Only, their number is very less and its hard to be like them. Agree or not, the others are just running after money.

People are two types where some work for their needs and some for that extra money..Most of the youth now-a-days who work in BPO sector are from upper middle class family...Their families are well settled and they do not have the responsibility to settle the basic needs...Most of them work and study during their grad...It really focuses them but it doesn't really help their studies. They work and toil their precious education for money and pleasures which are not that important...Many of the persons who are in a higher positions in IT sector are no that old and they are stressed out such that they want to retire at an early age..
So if you want to retire early then you should earn together for that ages of retirement..so they work more stressing out those important moments in Life not even taking care of their family..They do earn money but they also earn more health problems with that and that's why Heart attacks...
It can be said that money is the cause for everything and Money hai to Honey hai and Monkey bhi hai..

certainly yes, considering engg fellows ... as i have seen the people joined for money in displine not of their concern . . .
they just work for their payment , if any other pays more they just shift there job
every body should be respectfull and responsible for job . . .
they should remind tat real talent ll be appreciated

Changing from one job to higher paying one is not running after money always because one enters a job that he gets first. It may not be according to his qualification. But to stand on his leg he has to be an employee. So accepts it.Later when he gets a job that suits his qualification he changes to it and it continues. Then only he gets job satisfaction.
In my state Kerala, almost all youth are educated and getting a reputed employment matching to his educational qualification is very very difficult. So even a post graduate will join as last grade servant. Then he tries for higher jobs.Situation teaches him to be so.Hence he cannot be blamed as running behind money.
Abid,
What you said is 100% correct...Changing jobs doesn't mean that you are running behind money...But there are people who just change jobs just for that extra money leaving every other conditions... You should always be careful that money doesn't become our life and control our conscience..Everything should be under our control so as to lead a normal life...

Money is not everything but we should give 80% place to money in your life without money you can not wear cloth can not get food, can not get love of your relative, can not get home, can not travel, and even can not smile fully etc all things is depend upon money.

I dont think that is true.
We are not talking about a small group of people.. we are saying it generally..
Generally.. rich people may not be happy..
Not saying that all are not happy.. Some are really successful in their life..
Also you can't say whether a person is happy with his life or not without knowing him personally.
All can pretend to be happy..

Yes ramalingam,
We cannot say that ALL the youth are running behind money for living a stylish life.Just saying generally we may say that.
But in India , there are lot of people who live a very poor life and really struggle to earn money to just keep their life moving on.
The problem is that many of them may be using a bad way to earn money and then it will become
" running behind money "

Siddharth,
Its true that basic needs of every person may be same. But some people will be satisfied with basic needs whereas some other may try to get more.Cannot say that you should stop your desires on acquiring your basic needs. You have to work hard.Life has given you only one chance and you have to utilise it to the maximum..
When you are able to work, work hard and earn good from it and you can use your hard earned money to full fill your needs.
Also, age may not depend on lifestyle very much but aged people may not be liking to follow the life style of youth due to health problems or something else and also youth may not try to live a life of aged because of their desires and ability to live as what they want to be..

When you try to earn more for your future also to stop work earlier, you may be loosing many beautiful moments in your life.
Time and tide waits for no man.If you loose those moments saying that you want to earn more for future, you cannot say that you will get that happiness after retirement.
Also over stress on yourself may lead to several problems.
So,enjoy every moment of your life. Not saying that stop working so hard...
If your aim is high, you should work hard. But don't miss any beautiful moments in your life because you may not be sure that you will get those moments back..

Yes abid,
Job satisfaction is greater than money. You cannot stick on to a job which doesn't give you satisfaction, for a long time.Moving from one job to another job is not a bad thing.
Its just a progress in your career.
If you start as a clerk and retire as a clerk then what is the progress in your career?
You should always try to progress in your life.. Don't be dull or lazy ..
Work hard and be successful...

The importance for money that a person give in his life may depend from person to person.
You cannot say that it is 80 - 20 ..
Fact is that you cannot give any prescribed ratio as it will always depend on person, situation, financial status etc.
