MG Singh created new article Film Stars Dominate Politics in Tamilnadu.
The state of Tamilnadu was carved out of the erstwhile Madras, Hyderabad State. This was done as per the recommendations of the states reorganization commission set up by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Tamil Nadu thus became a distinct part of the Indian Union, where the majority of the population spoke the Tamil language.
The state of Madras also had a thriving film Industry which almost rivaled Bollywood. The Tamil film industry had it all, stars and superstars who were immensely popular among the people of the state. However, unlike other states the psyche of the Tamilians is to associate more with the film stars and the films. One reason could be that the stars give an escape route to the common man to live a fantasy and have a dream world and have a dream world away from the harsh reality of life.
The result of this was that film stars became the dominant face of everyday life. It was thus not unreasonable for them to venture into the world of politics. The Tamil masses accepted the film stars as political leaders for the last 6 decades out of the 7 decades of Indian independence, film stars have ruled the roost in Tamilnadu and they are the dominant political force
The first star who made a big splash on the political arena was MG Ramachandran. He was a superstar in his own right and extremely popular. MGR, as he was popularly called, was a wonderful man and he has the distinction having any number of women consorts, one of these consorts was Jayalalitha, who later took over the leadership after his death. MGR came into the limelight when he broke away from the DMK chief Karunanidhi and formed his own party the All India Anna DMK. Both parties paid allegiance or maybe lip service to the founder of the Dravidian movement Annudarai.
MGR
MGR upset the apple cart of Karunanidhi and defeated him in the elections. He followed up by becoming the chief minister of the state of Tamil Nadu. MGR was a great leader but he was getting on in years and though he had a kidney transplant he left for his heavenly abode after few years.
His consort was Jayalalitha, who was 30 years his junior and had been along with him as his intimate companion. She was also a film star having acted opposite him in a number of films. Just for the record she also starred with the Indian Superstar from Bollywood Dharmendra in the Hindi film "Izzat". She donned the mantle of the leader of the AIDMK and made a place for herself on her own in the hearts of the Tamil people. There have been there having been many allegations of corruption against her but this did not stop the Tamil people from almost worshipping her like a goddess
Earlier MGR was opposed by another superstar name Sivaji Ganesan. He was a formidable star and was often referred as the Dilip Kumar of the Tamul film world. He was a supporter of the Congress Party but compared to MGR who talked of Tamil Pride Sivaji Ganesan by virtue of being a supporter of the Congress Party failed to gel with the people of Tamilnadu or to cut much ice with them and in the ultimate analysis lost out to MGR
Jayalalitha had a good career as a chief minister of Tamilnadu.Though she did lose the election to the DMK and Karunanidhi became the Chief Minister, her hold on the populace was complete and when she died many Tamil persons immolated themselves. Such was the emotional attachment to Jayalalitha.
Death of Jayalalitha
The death of Jayalalitha has opened the Pandora's box for new film stars to appear on the scene. As it stands Karunanidhi is now too old and confined to the wheelchair. His son Stalin does not have his Charisma and as such is unable to enthuse the masses. The All India Anna DMK which was a one-man show of Jayalalitha and after her death is now almost at headless. Her close companion Sasikala tried to take over the leadership of the party but she was convicted in a corruption scandal and has been sentenced to jail for 5 years. There is a possibility that in case Jayalalitha had not expired she would also have been convicted by the Supreme Court and that would have barred her from contesting elections in the future.
The field for the leadership of the All India DMK is open Jayalalitha's nephew has claimed the leadership but there are two new entrants in the field for the leadership of the Tamil people. They are the superstar Rajinikanth and another important star Kamal Hassan. Both claim to be good friends in real life but are politically miles apart. Kamal Hassan claims to be more secular and has mouthed some statements against Hinduism and Hindus. What his game is and why he mouthed such statements is not clear, because Kamal Hassan is a Hindu
Rajinikanth is playing a shrewd game. He has met Prime Minister Modi and generally is considered closer to the BJP. That is the reason that on a recent visit to Harvard, Kamal Hassan in a statement to the press said that there was very little likelihood of he and Rajinikanth joining together and he also hoped it that Rajnikant would get away from the saffron flag. Saffron, as you all know, is the color associated with Hinduism and the BJP.
Last word
The stage is set for a battle between these two superstars. Cho Ramaswamy the popular columnist and political Guru have brought out that a similar fight was between Sivaji Ganesan and MGR. He feels that just like Shivaji Ganeshan lost, so also Kamal Hassan will lose. He has also said that India can only progress forward once Rajnikant is the Prime Minister of India and that I think is the ambition of Rajinikanth. He is a great person, a philanthropist and a man with a golden heart. It is not inconceivable that with the permutations combinations going around in the political scenario in India that Rajnikant could be catapulted to the topmost post of political power. That is however a long way off and first, we will have to wait and see what happens in the coming general elections to the state assembly

MG Singh created new article The Will of the Pir.
The beginning
I have been long wanting to write this tale but now that 20 years away elapsed I think I can put this lovely story on paper. Close to the place where I stay is a small Dargah. It is dedicated to Pir Badshimiya Qadri, but though I am not a Muslim, I would make it a point to visit this Dargah. I used to go to this Dargah in the morning and then continue to the office. Mostly my chauffeur drove my car but sometimes, when it was raining he would not come and then I would drive the car myself.
One day my driver came and told me that he needed about 40 days leave and requested me to sanction it, as he had some urgent work back over in Bihar. I agreed and let them and go and resolved to drive every day myself to the office in my Mercedes. As usual, I drove the car on the first day to the Mazar and after a brief salutation continued forward. However, when I entered that day, I was struck by a lovely perfume which seemed to float in the dargah.I let the incident pass thinking that this could be a figment of my imagination. As I drove my car forward the heavens broker asunder and a heavy rain began to fall all around me. The rain created an arithmetic pattern on the ground and visibility was greatly reduced. I slowed down and then all of a sudden the car stopped. I was wonderstruck that my Mercedes should have stopped, something that has never happened before. I was wondering what to do when I espied a small stall just about 10 feet away from where my car had stopped. I was wonder start that my car had stopped so close to a tea stall, for this was exactly a small tea stall. With the rain belting down, I was in the mood for a perfect cup of tea, yes very hot tea. I thought I would start the car later as I got out as I rushed towards the small tea stall. I went inside and found it was a neat place and at the corner of the store I saw a young girl. She was obviously managing the stall. I could make out that she was pretty young maybe about 20 or 22 and to top it she was extremely attractive. I will be a nerd if I tell you that I was not aroused at seeing such a beautiful girl in a tea stall with the rain belting all around. I asked her
" Can I have a cup of tea"
" Sure" she replied" yes, what happened. Did your car stop? "
"Yes," I replied" it stopped magically here only and I shall go soon. "
" OK" she replied and lit the stove to prepare the tea.
She prepared 2 cups of tea and I realized she was going to take one cup for her. I looked at her and observed she was slightly wet. Her blouse hugged her body accentuating her raisings. On the spur of the moment I asked her how was it that she was wet when she was inside the stall.
She replied "oh! I had been to the dargah and I had to run back as the rain started"
I just sat and watched as the rain continued, wondering what to do. She looked at me and smiled" Just sit here and relax till the rain stops. After some time I will make you another cup of tea"
The Tryst
As I sipped the second cup of tea, we got into an animated conversation. Then, I observed that on her back and neck there were welt marks.Obviously, she had been badly beaten. I wondered how a woman went to the Dargah with so much faith could be beaten. The Pir was supposed to protect her and I wondered about it.
I left that time and thought to let sleeping dogs lie. I wanted to get to with my work. I reached the office, but the incident at the tea stall remained in my memory and I somehow could not get out of the image of the lovely girl. I could make out that she would have been about 20 years younger to me but my heart fluttered and I felt an ache. I mused as to who had beaten her and wondered if it was her husband or somebody else.
The next day I again drove my Mercedes out of the garage as usual. I stopped by the dargah and wondered about the Invisible Pir. I prayed for myself and hoped I would be successful. When I was about to leave I once again had the feeling that there was a perfume in the Dargah I put it down to the weather and went to my car. Just as I entered my Merc, the heavens opened up and thunder and lightning flashed across the sky and thunderbolts boomed and boomed again.
I put the car into gear and it and it moved forward smoothly. I wondered about the events of yesterday and wondered why the car had stopped. I also remembered that the car started easily and yet the car had stopped as I was nearing the tea stall. This time again something unique happened, the car on its own spluttered and there was his loud bang from the silencer and the vehicle ground to a halt. To my wonder, it has stopped again at the small tea stall
The girl saw me and she looked happy as it was raining cats and dogs with thunderbolts flashing across the sky. She asked me to come into the store and spontaneously she caught my hand and pulled me inside the wooden structure.
"Come," he said "I will make you a cup of tea till the Thunderbolt go away"
She looked happy today and I asked her the reason for it. She replied "today I had been to the dargah and something strange happened"
She continued " You know sahib, there was a wonderful perfume and something tells me in my heart that I am going to get my wish"
Magic was in the air as I without thinking put my hand on her back.
Gift of the Pir?
How did this happen? I have asked but I have no explanation.I cannot explain as I gently caressed her bare back as an electric current began to flow. There was definitely some Supernatural force acting and then did something which I have never done in my life, I kissed her and used a little force to get her to open her mouth. As I was kissing now I realized that a supernatural force was acting and I could have done nothing to stop it. Obviously, something strange was happening the result of all this was inevitable and with the rain beating down on the ground and thunder flashing in the sky I ended up making love to the lovely girl. It was pristine pleasure and at the back of my mind was perhaps this was the handiwork of the Pir. After it was over I just got up and left
For the next 3 days, I continued to visit the tea stall. This time my Mercedes did not stop on its own but I always shut off the ignition myself. This entire incident began to look like a fairy tale. Everybody knows the monsoon in the Western Ghats is tremendous and with the rain going all over I thought meeting my lovely friend was the best thing in the world. It was a pristine delight as I felt strong as ever and again I marveled at the transformation. After 3 or 4 days I told her I would be gone for some official work but I would come back. I asked her " What will you do ?"
She gave an enigmatic answer, " I shall wait for what the Pir promised me".
The end
These words are history now and I wondered at that time what she meant by these words. I came back not after few days but almost a month as I was stuck up for some extra work in Dubai. On return, I started my Merc and went straight to the stall. I wanted to gather the girl in my arms. I was in for a shock as there was no girl there but an old woman. With a beating heart, I asked her about the girl.
"Where is the girl," I asked. The lady replied with a smile "She has gone to her village as she is with a child. You know Sahab her mother in law and husband used to beat her every day for not conceiving. She used to pray at the Dargah and the Pir Baba blessed her and give her a child".
My legs became jelly and I did not drink any tea as I rushed back to my car. With a thumping heart, I started the car as the realization dawned on me that the Pir had given her a gift which he had manifested through me. I drove away wondering at the superpower that had been manifested. My car stopping, the perfume, and the Dargah followed by ferocious love all were the hallmark of a super power. I went to the Dargah and this time it was filled with a lovely perfume. I knew it was Real. Two days later I got a senior appointment at Dubai and wondered, was it the Pir's way to reward me. It was an appointment I never expected. He had paid me for helping him fulfill the dreams of the girl. I never knew her name or where she went. It was a tryst as per the gods.

MG Singh created new article MIlitary Analysis of the Recent attack on Army Camp at Jammu.
The state of Jammu and Kashmir is supposed to be an integral part of the country. Despite this, the state has its own constitution and flag. It is also governed by a special article of Indian constitution namely article 370, which confers a special status on the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The fact for reasons unknown Kashmir has been treated with kid gloves by the union government and no effort has been made to integrate Kashmir with the Indian Union. Failure to integrate Kashmir has resulted in sectarian policies and chauvinistic ideas floating around in the valley. The people there over a period of time began to think of themselves as distinct from India. They were also able to cultivate a religious divide.
Beginning of crisis
No action was taken by the central government to defuse the crisis. The results were disasters as over 2 lakh Hindu Kashmir Pandits were forced to leave the valley. This was nothing short of ethnic cleansing. The Government of India made no attempt to stop that ethnic cleansing of Hindu pandits and I think as things stand now the Kashmir Valley is hundred percent Muslim. With migration from other parts, the countries to Kashmir banned this group of Muslims was easily exploited by Pakistan and extremist Muslims. The result was that the valley became the breeding ground of terrorism.
The rise of terrorism was not overnight but progressed forward over a period of almost three decades. During this period the Government of India with leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi Narasimha Rao, and Manmohan Singh sat like Nero who fiddled when Rome burned.. The result was that an average Kashmiri began to think himself more a Pakistani then an Indian. This has now resulted in a full-grown insurrection. Not a day passes when the insurgents do not attack the army or the police. this There is no doubt that Pakistani terrorists are coming into the country, but what is significant is that a number of local Kashmiri youth have taken to the gun and are ready to die for their cause. These are the suicide bomber and daredevil Mujahidin who fight in the name of Islam. They are firm in their belief that after death they will go to paradise and be rewarded with 72 virgin wives.
Fedeyan attack
With this background, we can analyze the Fedeyan attack on the army camp in the heart oF Jammu. The Attack should not be a surprise as it has all the makings of a classical operation. Probably it was conceived in Pakistan at the headquarters of the Inter Sevices military intelligence of the Pakistan army. The attackers were highly motivated and they chose the army camp which incidentally has been attacked earlier also.
The camp housed the J&K light infantry. This is a unit created after independence and is an outlet for Kashmiri Muslims Most of the members of this unit belong to Kashmir. Nehru and Cariappa had accepted the principle of the Martial race, but the British never recruited any Kashmiri, as they did not consider them martial. this point need not be sneered at, as the Kashmiri is known as a docile person and for that reason, Kashmir has always been ruled and the local population which at one time was 100% Hindu converted overwhelmingly to Islam.
The enemy within
The result was that the camp was inadequately defended. it is inconceivable that 3or 4 heavily armed terrorists could enter the camp, which as I have said is in a crowded area of Jammu. In all probability, the watch and search procedures were not followed. There also was no patrolling inside the camp and the terrorists could reach the family quarters area. It is sad that 6 soldiers were martyred. Needless to add that all were Muslims from J&K. The army moved in later and special forces rushed in as the J&K light infantry did not have trained soldiers to take on the terrorists. This is a serious lacuna that a quick reaction team to fight terrorists was not on hand in a large camp.
These are mistakes that are avoidable. The J& K sentries at the gate and those responsible for perimeter patroling were perhaps not alert, otherwise, teh infiltration bid should have been neutralized in the bud. Sadly it did not happen and the Indian state has to pay the penalty.Another thing that must be investigated as some co religionist soldier could have turned black sheep. There is no proof, but must be investigated.
