If great people are made, It's due to the efforts of the Teachers. When Late Dr. Abdul Kalam was honored for his contributions in Space research, He said he owed his greatness to his teacher. So its implied that both the factors are needed. Teachers who make the great students. And great students who rose up to expectations of his teacher..

Whether we like it or not the media has a huge role to play in the psyche of a nation.  Young and impressionable minds do imbibe a lot from what is done in the media.  Which I think was the heart of this discussion. Correct me if I am wrong.  That said TV debates today are not teach any lessons worth learning or imbibing, though they supposed discuss important issues.

Thinking of waiving Toll Tax is impracticable. Only alternative worth considering is reducing the toll tax as much as possible.

I can not fathom why TV channels are supposed to end up being teachers for our younger generation. Does not seem logical. Also if  you watch CNN or BBC continuously they also go on repeating throughput the day. Every one watches Arnab and some do not like him. Fair enough. A lot like him . Fair enough. But why condemn him. If you do not like move on to other channels.

I agree. Parents need to be watchful and vigilant. Once a student goes out especially a teenager , parents believe that children had gone to school. This where parents should keep an eye on the movements of the students. It's difficult. Because if the child smells that he is being spied that very moment the trust breaks. And this situation may lead to many disastrous results.Parents should be both watchful and skillful.

Manoj Kumar Lamba wrote: Many road construction work is given to private companies, and the companies are allowed to collect the money by having toll booths on those roads. But I have heard in news,  many times these tolls still there on the roads even after the collection of enough money.  The roads should be made toll free after the collection of desired money. Our government should strictly observe this. It wouldn't be possible to make it free after the initial costs are covered, because a good road needs constant maintenance. Its does cost a lot to maintain the quality of roads. However, as you feel at least the burden of toll fees can be reduced considerably over a period of time. consequently, it seems road building and maintenance works are what bring money to politicians today. They recover the costs of being elected from the contracts given out for these purposes.  We just become pawns in their game.

@usha manohar It is always true regarding the teenagers, be it at home or in school, that they must be handled with utmost care. There must be decent dialogue to make them understand but at times rebuking becomes mandatory because children by nature are very casual. It's not always that children intentionally disrespect their teachers and elders but they are not very careful about their attitude and they commit the mistake of disrespecting others. To change this we as parents and guardians need to be very watchful regarding our attitude and gradually the teenagers will learn to behave properly.

Besides the usual expenditure involved, you pay parking and so many other charges and added to that is the extras like tolls when you decide to travel in a vehicle bought by your hard earned money , paying taxes so that you get the benefit of using a well maintained road ??

The words great, good are blanket terms which make it difficult to discuss this topic.  Great academically or in attitude?  There are many teachers who have won merits and awards but cannot come to the level of a student. However, a person who has a passion for the profession makes an effective teacher. The desire to impart knowledge and all round development need to be at the core of a teachers heart.  Without passion any profession become just a form of livelihood.

Greatness is a huge term which does not only relate to intelligence and academic performance but it also includes the behavioural pattern of the student. A great student can attain the position of a great teacher only when he/she has a quest for knowledge and knows how to remain dedicated to the students. In effect a person who is compassionate and has humane qualities ...I totally agree with that !

Good students are created by Good teachers alone. May be the student possess some good qualities. But these are in a haphazard manner. It's the teacher who arranges all the inherent  sparks in to a Fire. Hence, A good product is made only when the raw material is good. Such good students remember their teachers all along.

It's not fair to blame the teachers when the fault lies in the system itself. It's necessary to work both teachers and the administration.together. The problem here is not just the system but everybody including the teachers who contribute to it. Teachers have certain responsibility towards their career and when they tend to misuse it and do things halfheartedly the result is that they lose credibility and respect. Students on the other hand come from homes where the parents are far too busy to see the subtle changes that are taking place in their children due to peer pressure and outside influences all of which also make them revolt when the situation is ripe. But one can forgive them because they are still young, impressionable and can be corrected ..It is the sum total of all this that we see reflecting in teacher - student relationships.

Yes, its seems that though we drove the British rulers out of our country we do seem to carry the British culture in our hearts and psyche. That goes to show how much we respect our own culture. While we try to show them off our dress and culture in our international fashion shows but within the country we are in two minds about it. However, we need to ask ourselves a question - do we go to work everyday wearing Indian styled clothes or Indian clothes. We as a people have changed in many ways  from what is culturally our to what is comfortably ours.

usha manohar wrote:   I agree, it takes both sides...This is not to degrade teachers in general since I am one too...But in my own school the sports teacher is called Hitler by the students because he behaves like one and another teacher ( I hope he is not around here ) asks boys to go to the nearest toddy shop to bring him a packet of local liquor during the break, so they call him Mugal, which in Thulu means overcast, normally this term is used for someone who is intoxicated ! Now, how can you expect students to respect such teachers unless they have some other sterling quality that overshadows these obvious traits that dont go well .. When teachers fails to inspire and behave in a demeaning manner they deserves what they get. However, the trend of disrespecting teachers is not to be encouraged. While there are a few who fall off  the lofty pedestal there are many who labor to educate and build a nation. One rotten apple should not become the cause of  bad reputation for all teachers.   It is not a question of bemoaning a dead cause.. it is because there is a glimmer of hope we discuss issues like these here.
