I get a feeling that most have simply not bothered to read my post. There is NO communalism involved in trashing Hussain but his own arrogant view of things to portray icons sacred to others in a most vulgar manner. At one point of time, he himself had said that he painted Hitler because he hated him so that makes his own hatred for HIndus and their icons amply clear because he painted them all nude. He himself is responsible for bringing communalism in his works and not those who trash him for it! It is a very very sad fact that people so dearly love to like Hussain and defend him so vehemently. It has become rather a fashion!

Yes, the common man irrespective of community feel the pain equally but those who can control/stop misdoings are always in a hunt to gain something from such painful cases. None of them is ready to work hard to eliminate such issues and make India free of brutality.

The fact is India is very unfortunate. We pay tribute just as a routine and no one cares about the legacy they left for us and we need to take it forward in the way it was created. We are so selfish nowadays that it has become difficult for us to pay them true respect by following the path shown by them. Barbaric act has become a norm of this country and we are not ashamed of it. Actually when we pay routine homage, we are insulting these great personalities.

Yes a very large number of widows especially from Bengal end up in Mathura. They are paid a few rupees per day for chanting bhajans for a few hours by some charitable organisations. These widows are thrown out by their sons and daughters and others and have no place to go. It is sad and I have seen a few documentries on them which are very moving. No one speaks on their behalf.

But the central point is who is responsible for creation of such environment in the country. Crocodile tears are shed and silence is adopted by gainers ans sympathisers.

vijay replied to the topic It is Salvation or Suicide.
It is a matter of faith with the Jains but in the eyes of law it is taking one's life which is committing suicide. Every religion has strange practices which defy logic. These practices will go on as members want to follow them because they believe in them.

There is another side also. If friends and relatives do not express such concerns then they are  considered to be indifferent, possessing superior attitude etc. So one is damned both ways giving and not giving advice.

It speaks low of ourselves that politicians think that they will polarise us and get more votes. People have to rise above these sentiments and vote fairly. Then such instances will hopefully go down.

vijay replied to the topic Remembering Mahatma Gandhi..
Gandhiji and Shastri are remembered on their birthdays in a routine manner.  Their teachings are long forgotten. I had the good fortune of seeing Shastriji a few months after 1965 war and still remember the thrill I felt at seeing him from so near and the wildly cheering crowd that greeted  him. Today crowds have to be paid to attend meetings.

That's what I call as Simplicity.Lal Bahadur Shastri passed on his property called Simplicity to his next generations too. And his family to maintained that Simplicity uninterrupted. And your example substantiates to it.

vijay said thank you to chinmoymukherjee for his/her reply to the topic Remembering Mahatma Gandhi..
On this day I am poignantly reminded of how far we are removed from his cherished ideals. It is just not deadly conflicts and discord among nations, violence has become the creed even at the levels of families.Just two days back a man was lynched by an insane mob who did not care to know if he was eating beef or goat's meat and the head of our country who does not even spare the 'Damad' of the oppositon leader on a foreign soil is deafeningly silent on this barbaric episode! Very sickening and dangerous times, indeed! We have no moral to take Gandhiji's name, let us forget Him!!

Lal Bahadur Shastri was a very simple person and his family also imbibed these values. In the Institute I did my engineering one of his sons had come to seek admission and stood quietly in line. But soon the news spread and many went to see him and appreciated the fact that he behaved like a normal person. It was India's misfortune that he passed away so soon.

Thankfully, this issue is not a regular problem in India. Hopefully one day the problem creators of all the communities will be forced to stop their wrongdoings and the countrymen can leave in peace.

Shastri ji's humble look spoke a lot about him. It defined his soft behaviour very clearly. Look wise he was not as dashing as the first P.M of India but that's just an outer projection. His soft look never portrayed that he was a distinguished scholar but he was so in reality.

I agree with your views ! Lal Bahadur Shastri was a simple humble man who could have probably done a lot for the nation had he lived longer.Today he is all but forgotten by the party he represented. He was probably the most sincere and honest Prime Minister the nation has had. Here is a link to an article that gives some insight into his persona  http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-5-things-you-must-know-about-former-prime-minister-lal-bahadur-shastri-2130883

Thanks for the informative article which has thrown light in many unknown aspects about Shastri. The story behind the birth of " Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan was interesting. Another factor is that " Shstri"  title was conferred on him by Kasi Viswa Vidyalay Shastri means Scholar.

We often remember 2 October as for Mahatama Gandhi birthday but we forget the man Lal Bahadur Shashtri whose birthday is too belong to 2 October. Shashtri ji may not be as big as Gandhi ji but his work for the country too should not be forgotten. Let's remember the man who looked simple but his heart was solid like iron.  After Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru death, Shashtri ji become the Prime minister. It was the time when country was going in crisis situation just after we had China war. But the man with strong character not only tackle all the challenges but gave us the moment of pride with his words and actions against Pakistan war in 1965.  Let's remember the most honest Prime minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri today.
