@Kalyani is right but implied in her reply is the fact that even she expects members of reputed institutes to behave decently. That it is not happening is deviation which needs to be corrected.

Yes agitation and forming pressure groups. Politics in our country has now got reduced to this stae if one wants justice. The politicians have turned deaf and blind. They only see foreign trips, bigger bungalows, and financial security for seven generations to follow them. all at state expense of course. So till people do not agitate they will not get anything.

CM of Karnatka is enjoying his special rights. Condition of Karnatka is so worse no one image. People have not right to call back. Farmers are dying in every state. Here is this situation in Punjab. Farmers of Punjab are doing agitation and blocke railway track. Agitation is the only weapon for the people of Kranataka.

Without being misunderstood, even if there was no corruption, unfortunately the farmers would still be committing suicides. The two have no corelation. The farmers are at te lowest rung of the business ladder and that makes them considerably vulnerable to not being able to face financial losses due to natural and other calamities. The farmers also must come together and form a political party and bargain for lending their support to political parties on their terms and conditions. In India that is the only way now to get justice and economic packages. Sell votes enbloc.

That is the point. Millions are living peacefully but a few are trying to create hate and division. In today's India some are still in the immediate post Aurangzeb era while the world has moved on they are still stuck in that era.

I had also read this. I feel that there should be no such restriction in widely celebrated public function. But when the function is private or limited to a residential society only, such restrictions could be okay. Incidentally, in most temples in Orissa, non Hindus are not allowed. This also does not seem wrong. It is wrong to disturb others but okay not to allow others in your own functions.
Religion is not written on the forehead of any one. More over Graba celebration are of private. These are organize by groups of peoples. I am living in area where I never listen about this type restrictions. Here people of all religion celebrate Dusshara, Depawali and other festivals. It is another thing they don't worship like Hindus. If VHP is imposing this type restriction, than what is government is doing.

Yes, it is. It starts more than a month in advance actually. Right from pre-planning to puja shopping, practicing for cultural programmes in the Pujas held in almost every street or 'para' as called in Bengali and then getting totally involved in the final five days of Puja rituals, pandal hopping, getting together with friends/ relatives and full on celebrations, it is an amazing experience altogether, here in Kolkata.
Oh so you are from Kolkata too! THat is wonderful!
Yes Kalyani, I am and although I have stayed in different places depending on where my husband is located, during Pujas we try and drop in here, as do many other cousins and friends staying outside Kolkata. It is like a big reunion time.

In my initial college days along with some friends I broke the queue to get into a bus but failed to board it. An elderly gentleman asked us which college are we studying in. When we told him the name , he looked at us in a very somber manner and said, students of this college do not behave like this. My college was indeed the best and had a good reputation. Ever since I have realised that the company you belong to also gives you its reputation and expects you to live upto it. So @Kalyani stating that days are over for the company you keep is not right. It surely matters. We all know which party goons belong to, or the corrupt come from or which party members use religion or which institution is respected for its service to the nation and so on.
As far as goons are concerned, they belong to all the political parties, there is not a single party which does not have goons in their fold. And what I was saying is applicable in general and in all walks of life. The example you cited about your college and its reputation, it holds not much water now., Because there are large number of people from all kinds of reputed institutes and schools, but no longer are seen sticking to the etiquette and decorum of what their respective school, college or whatever stood for. I would like to quote an example here of CME in Pune, the college of military engineering, one of finest in the country, that produces Army Officers in Engineering cadre, Now as you are obviously aware that Indian Army proudly addresses their army cadets as Gentleman Officers and these CME guys used to truly gentleman at one point of time. But in the last decade, there have innumerable instances where these 'gentlemen' have ganged up on hapless civilians and beaten them brutally. The reasons are several, including refusing to serve them after the hotel is closed, shopkeepers not stocking a particular item these people ask for etc. etc. So where is the reputation here? Once a full gang of these guys even stormed a local police station and dragged out constables outside and beat them up.

Hello @Kalyani, I am a Bengali but born and brought up in Bihar. I got married to a Bengali of Kolkata and my base shifted there from Patna. At present or to be specific for the last thirteen years I am in Delhi due to my husband's posting. I do enjoy Durga Puja here and within the pandal it is similar to the pujas of Bengal. The same was the case in Patna. Now, I miss the rest of the family, friends and that special feeling of the festival available at every corner of Bengal. I once attended Durga Puja in Mumbai and you know, once you step inside the pandal, the fervour is same. Though I don't love pandal hopping, I enjoy sitting and chatting with dear ones at any pandal. In Bengal there is a lot of variety in idols, pandals and lighting which are the x-factors of Durga Puja. Loved to know about you from your post. I too very particularly attend Ashtami puja in the morning and offer pushpanjali to Maa Durga. May the Goddess shower her blessings on you and your loved ones!
Yes Shampa, I agree. The fervour inside the pandals might be the same but it is a totally different thing to have all your relatives and friends with you during the special festivities such as these! After all, festivals is all about being with your loved ones and doing all those things amongst your own people.
@Usha, from what I have heard from my friends, Durga Puja is the time that one must be in Kolkata and it is one of my dreams to visit Kolkata only during these days.
