Corruption grows out of corruption. This applies to the corrupt politicians and their corrupt children too. Wise parents are aware of this truth. Hence, they take care that their children are surrounded by a clean environment. In this respect, family plays a pivotal role

I agree. When you elect a government, you give them authority to use public money in the best interest of state as perceived by them. There is audit and and administrative mechanism to see the propriety and legitimacy of expenditure. Unless money is used clandestinely by fudging public accounts for creating personal assets as distinguished from public assets, corruption cannot be alleged.

Mayawati is the outcome of a class conflict raging from centuries in this country. The installing of statues of elephants and a couple of her own along with Kashiram's statue is to be seen as expression of identity politics. It is a manner of establishing or registering a place in society which was denied till date. When statues of upper caste leaders like Netaji, Nehru, Gandhi are installed all over the country at state expense it is considered normal but when a Dalit's statue is installed it is usually seen as waste of money. Till caste based discrimination is there such demonstrations of identity politics will occur. Incidentally the park at NOIDA is today a beautiful picnic cum tourist site and Dalits also are proud to see their icons standing tall. Let us not grudge them their due after crushing them for centuries.

yes the family plays a very important role in developing the ability to distinguish between good and bad by a growing child. Imagine the value system the children of corrupt politicians , officials, builders etc inherit. It looks very normal to them.

I was once travelling with a mid level naval officer and te talk veered to corruption. He said something which I found pragmatic. He said everyone is bothered about the 5-10% leakage or bribes in a project. hardly anyone bothers about the quality of the 90% that has been actually spent. The attention should be on it because that is what is going to last for a long period. @Usha is right it does become very difficult for an honest person to survive in an ocean of dishonest persons. Mos of the time the honest is eased away or has to submit. But the saving grace is that although corruption is there it is not so widespread as is believed to be and the honest do get an opportunity to perform.

It's an issue of incompatibility and of ego. It's not uncommon to have differences between the couples. But wise couple with a view to save the sanctity of Marriage, avoid conflicts and confrontations In order to save the marriage, at least for the sake of the common interests of the family, they should adjust leaving aside their differences. A home is an abode of peace. Not a battle field Wisdom lies in one of them stepping down to enjoy the fruits of Marital bliss.
In the absence of this, it's better to go for a legal separation.

@ Shweta ...I agree that in most marriages this is what happens, the couple grow together not grow apart. But in this particular case thats what has happened ..
@ Chinmoy I too tend to agree that when the differences have escalated over the years it is better to separate rather than make each other and others around them unhappy. At least now one can see couple coming out openly rather than continue to remain unhappy and miserable in a marriage because they are worried what people would say ?

World Food Day is observed all over the world on October 16. It's objective is to eradicate Hunger by spreading awareness among the people.
But with the rampant abuse of environment for the sake of Development, rainfall has become scarce. Groundwater levels are depleting. All these factors are to pondered before we think of eradicating Hunger.
It applies to India too. Due to reduced rainfall, it has become a herculean task for a farmer to grow his crops. For this reason farmers are forced to resort to chemical based agriculture. The chemical used for farming are ridden with toxins, which further lead to poisoning the food. The traders started using artificial colors to the vegetables and artificial ways to ripen the fruits.
As far as I'm concerned, I'm aware that I'm eating poison, not food. But I don't have any option. Some consolation for me is, I eat more pulses. and I eat only home food.

Yes Kalyani, they are both strong personalities and that is probably the flash point and there are any number of minor issues that come out now. The husband has the full support of his family members because they all blame the wife although the couple has not divulged too many details to them. However , the lady in question has no mother and her father and her only brother are both neutral because they feel that being negative may spoil things more and they genuinely like her husband. So, it looks all the more that it is the fault of the wife which is not the case ! I also feel that his family has been the cause to some extent but I may be going only by her own account ..

When there is problem and differences that cannot be sorted out legal separation or Divorce becomes the only solution..This is the opinion of a couple I am friendly with. They have had problems within their marriage, lived separately just to see if things would get better and now feel that there is no other solution but to go in for a divorce.Their only daughter lives abroad , visits them rarely because of the unhappy atmosphere that prevails within their home. My personal opinion - they are both intelligent and social ,to us look well matched...But now the wife says her husband is a control freak and the Husband has the same opinion about the wife. I was suggesting that they live separately once more with determination to work things out rather than with the idea of separating and finding fault with each other - introspect !!!,....What would your opinions and views be about the couple separating after 26 years of unhappy marriage, should they still try and reconcile !

One must not give up under any pressure but here on this thread the opinion completely differed though some of them are the same people. Honesty is definitely not paying positive returns in this corrupt situation but I would say it's the best policy because it gives peace to one's mind and heart as well as keeps the conscience totally clean. Honesty is not required in work place only but at home, among friends, with neighbours and so on is also very much needed. Dishonesty spoils every relationship so I am always in favour of honesty.
There is a paradox about honesty. even the dishonst expect 'honesty' from others. A smuggler also likes ;honest enployees'. In fact, the corrupt and dishonest 'very honestly' share the 'benefit of unlawful income' among themselves.
The dishonest also want to be treated with respect. A customer of mine was once raided by the IT Dept. and a heavy penalty was to be imposed on him. The matter was 'settled' and he was required to pay a few lakhs to a top IT official. Innocently he took the cash to the officer's office and was about to hand over when the officer admonished him and to him to come to his house in the evening. At the house the officer berated my friend for insulting him by coming to his office and showing disrespect to his rank. He was furious and all this happened in presence of his wife. After venting his anger he asked his wife to collect the cash and store it safely. My friend told me that he even had to apologise for his lapse. It had become a routine affair for the officer. Dishonesty was to be practiced with respect and dignity.
One has to be pragmatic. Nobody will generally accept bribe openly. The usual way is send cash in an envelope and hand over carefully.
On the contrary I was stunned when a Brig. during my BRO projects management days threw my visiting card at me on my second visit saying I don't want this, I want that ( you know what I mean). I already had it in my bag and gave it openly to him what I was hesitating until then.
