@ Kalyani , the lady is now unwilling because she has suffered a lot in the past and their daughter too supports her mother and feels that they all could be happy by being independent. I guess the lady has reached a point of no return now and her in laws are quite feudal in their thinking although the husband is quite broad minded ! She is hesitating to take the step because she knows that even legally she will be the loser !
@ Rambabu,,,it is always the petty issues that become major issues in a marriage ! Just out of curiosity, why don't you get you fix your breakfast yourself and let your wife chat to her hearts content ?
The lady seems to have reached the breaking point now and there is no use going back. I think if her daughter understands and supports her decision, she should just get out of the wedlock and start her life anew. NO point in sticking around if she has suffered the brunt of her husband's egotistical and unyielding attitude.

If both parties are ready then divorce is faster because of mutual consent. Yes alimony issues will be there but there are judicial pronouncements for it which can become a guideline.

Secularism requires a very mature and tolerant population and high calibre leaders. Today India is seeing increasing intolerance under ordinary leaders and thus secularism has taken a back seat. Almost everyone is now a self styled champion of their community and the level of intolerance is so high that even harmless statements draw tremendous fire. Arguments are reduced to technicalities and apologies are demanded from every utterance. It is sad that for an increasing numbercof Indians Pakistan is becoming the model for future India.

Abdul Kalam was respected by all , for his contribution as the President of India and in his capacity as an aero space scientist. His down to earth nature and simplicity should be a role model for youngsters.

@ Shampa, when there is constant friction and bickering it creates a very unhealthy atmosphere so much so that even close relatives and friends hesitate to visit the couple , lest they might get caught up in the middle of one of their fights. Now that they have been living separately, there will be the issue of compensation without which she becomes dependent because she has quit her job or rather made to quit her job by the husband.Even a separation has its own set of problems ..

I don't think becoming a Hindu rashtra is such a bad thing...At least rules and regulations would be in black and white and it does not essentially mean that others have no right but we may have more straight forward rules than the highly confusing and manipulative ones that we have now,,However, if the majority wishes for such a step , it may come to that if civil rights are not trampled !

@ Chinmoy, Mayawati, Mulayam Singh and his son and Lalu have all been painted with the same brush, one cannot distinguish between any of them. Each one is out to make his position prominent and they have hangers on like Azam Khan , who is another extremely manipulative politician ..Honestly each state in our country has its own brand of jokers and non performers who manage to stay in lime light and wield power. They are shameless to the core and would go the list inch to hold on to their position and government houses !

@Usha Those who looking to Mayawati and her ilk for deliveraence of Dalits in India are hoping in despair and need not be taken seriously. In fact these dalit leaders are a hopelessly divided lot and what is dividing them is their personal interest not that of the community. In fact the so-called identity politics which nothing but identification of dalit.causes through corrupt dalit leaders is a bane for this community.Swami Vivekananda to my mind was the first iconic figure who lent voice to the downtodden which nany others like Gandhiji,Tagore. In Independent India Baba Saheb Ambedkar who rose to stellar height for remarkable contribution to the making of modern India and super-efficient minister Jagjivan Ram never thought of erecting their statues and here a member claims Mayawati in her short(!!) was racing against to beautify parks with her statues!!!

It's better to listen to the words carefully before jumping to conclusion. Merely saying yes or no to every opinion brings one's reputation down and not taken seriously. The interest of the erstwhile ruling party says- spread as many rumors and confuse people as much as possible. They see chance of revival in this single action.

Haryana CM, Manoharlal Khattar, who has stirred up the controversy over Beef ban, first denied about Muslims should give up Cow meat claimed that his version was distorted by the press. Then during the course of an interview with Indian express denied and then apologized .The whole thing left me confused. Then with the news that another party that ruled this country for a long time has banned beef in 1955. All this charges and counter charges confused a common man like me. I would like to request our members to clarify what's right and what is wrong.

Divorce cases last for years. The lawyers who charge astronomical amounts are the real beneficiaries. Additionally adjournment after adjournment cause mental depression. And there will be threatening and warnings by the other party. All these factors together makes the one who seeks divorce a mental wreck.

On the verge of becoming a Hindu Rashtra!!! Ha ha! I don't know how many would buy your fictional nightmarish tale but it goes to demonstrate that you are very losing faith in our people,in our democratic institutions. I would particularly raise a very objection to your blatant distortion of facts by claiming Hindus in Bengal are beef eaters and in the process you have defamed as well as hurt their sentiments and sensibilities. You have not even bothered to qualify the word "Hindu" by some or few! If I were in your position I would tender an unqualified apology. It is an act of defamation.

rambabu replied to the topic What Durga Pujo Can Teach India About Communal Harmony.
When I was in Rourkela, Odisha, I had an opportunity to be a member in the Central Puja Committee. I was given this opportunity because of Artistic talent. The Committee will be given a car and the members should visit all puja pandals including mofussil regions. And the committee chooses the Best Puja Pandal taking in to consideration all facts like Murty, electrical decoration and the number of visitors to the pandal.
We know how the Puja committees try to influence the committee .Actually, there is a rule that any puja committee should not extort the contribution by force. But unfortunately, like any other rule, this rule too is not implemented. Because the the law makers get a share out of the collection of contributions.

Staying together for 26 years with full of dissatisfaction is not healthy living. I may sound very harsh but I would consider myself as practical because there is no reason to stay together in one house when both have drifted apart emotionally and mentally. Formal or informal divorce cannot be a joyous and fun filled choice but it will definitely be a less taxing and would offer mental peace.

Now, commercialisation is not only related to pandals, but idols and lighting and decoration too. Obviously, money is a very big factor even for Durga Puja, the organisers collect contribution from people but the worst part is they are nowadays never get satisfied whatever they receive as contribution. They start nagging and some use force and so on. The point is Goddess Durga has not asked the organisers to put pressure but it is done because we people always pollute a good environment for our own benefit and that's how we the mortals are responsible for all such vicious act.
