Millions of Indians have made many foreign countries their home and have still retained their Indianness and even when they are citizens of USa, Australai etc come out in large numbers to cheer the Indian PM in mega rallies. We have not heard US or Australians denouncing them,

Religion and Politics have always gone hand in hand because many centuries ago , religion was all powerful and the political leaders took the advise of the religious leaders in almost all major decisions. So, it is but natural that at least to some extent the present day leaders look up to these religious leaders , although their clout is much less now

National leaders after their passing away are regionalised to the state they hailed from. A famous dead PM is suffering because he is stateless and thus vulnerable to being attacked without any state recoiling. Nation may do so perhaps.

We have enough outsiders living in our country - Britishers who have accepted India as their home land , Bangla Deshis, Sri Lankans, Chinese , Iranians, Africans ...Sometimes there are bound to be some minor differences which is normal. There is a saying when in Rome do as the Romans do, which I feel is true of all places

RAMAKRISHNAN. A replied to the topic Karva chauth celebrations in India..
In Kerala, Thiruvathira is the festival equivalent to Karva Chauth. It is believed to be the birthday of Lord Shiva that happens on Thiruvathira star, in the Malayalam month Dhanu (December/January), usually a full moon day. This year it happens on December 25. Unmarried women observe fast on this day, abstaining from rice-based food, to get good husband and married women observe fast for the well-being of their husband. Women perform a traditional group dance called Thiruvathira kali on this day accompanied by folk songs about Shiva and Parvati.

Run for unity is okay. But this does not work if you follow communal politics, kill people for free expression of views or simplyon rumour of eating some nonveg dish.

Modi bashing won't solve the crisis India faces
at the moment. The plain truth is that two principal
political parties are held hostage - one by RSS
and another by Gandhi. This family needs Congress
more than Congress do! Gone are the golden
moments, the halcyon days of Indian Democracy
presided over by no other than Pundit Nehru
when he would listen to golden oratory of Vajpayee
with rapt attention to pat his back at the end of it
to designate him as the 'future PM of India'! How
magnanimous of him! And Vajpayee? When he
visited South Block first time on becoming PM
and its mandarins removing the photo of Nehru
furiously asked them:Where is the photo of Panditji?
Today a bunch of self-styled conscience keepers
are emerging from the wings to usurp a role of
back-seat driving our political system and leaders
which is a dangerous trend. An open invitation to
extra-constitutional and ultra constitutional agency
to take over expressing their own lack of faith in
present leaders and the system.

There you are sir @chinmoymukherjee, this is what I also wanted to point out that usually the politicians act according to their advantage. This time may be the opposition succeeded in arranging a protest by the intellectual class against the ruling party while the ruling party failed in taking the writers and all in their favour. That's the story and the ruling party is not acting strongly to control this barbarism, why? This is ridiculous. They must step in strongly. From the very beginning Anupam Kher spoke against the return of the award so if it is said that he is against this policy because he is the supporter of the ruling party. So, this solves no problem. Some will support and some will speak against it but the party which is in power must act fast to keep this intolerance under control.
