Laptop and smartphone are convenient for some jobs while you are on the move.

Kalyani Nandurkar said thank you to usha manohar for his/her reply to the topic celebrating Tipu sultan Birth day .
Gulshan Kumar Ajmani wrote:   I am also not a student of history. So it will be inappropriate to say anything authoritatively. However, it is undisputed that Tipu sultan fought against British and was killed inaction. So he is early freedom fighter. No ruler can satisfy all people. There can be some sections/ community hostile to Tipu sultan. It also transpires that Maratha and some other Hindu kings sided with British against Tipu sultan. Apparently, for them it was more important to fight Tipu sultan rather than British. Are those who supported British patriot or traitor. It is also learnt that still there are many temples in the  palace/ fort of Tipu sultan. so it appears that the allegation of destroying temples is baseless. It is also seen that Tipu sultan annoyed Hindu Brahmans and upper castes who did not allow low caste Hindu women to wear bra or blouse. They were so lecherous that they considered it their right to watch nude breasts/ nipples of lower caste women. Tipu sultan interfered so that the low caste women could live with dignity and wear blouse. This practice of low caste women moving topless was also in Travancore Kerala. This was stopped by British government. These facts have been reported by some friends on Facebook with authentic images and complete details. However it appears that the state government has bot dealt with the law and order issue properly.          Someone rightly tweeted " The first thief ( Tipu) enters your house ,enslaves you and when the second thief  ( British) enters the house with the same purpose , the first thief fights him for his own survival and dies at the hands of the second thief ! So do we call the first thief a patriot ??? Amusing that some people are ready to go to any length to twist facts and write their own version of history ! All that is written about Brahmins peeping at womens intimate parts of the body is hogwash written by someone ( probably a Dalit writer to defame Brahmins and Upper Caste people ) with a very dirty and fertile imagination. In Kerala and parts of Konkan coast women from old traditional families regardless of caste still do not wear blouse while at home.earlier this was in practice , mainly because of the weather.Woen wore sarees tied tightly around their bosom and left one side of their shoulder bare. British did try to stop this practice but not very successfully since it is still very much in practice in villages ..So if a Brahmin could peep at low caste women so could low caste man peep at a High caste woman ! As far as Tipus so called secular views , the temples that are remaining afer his misrule have all been restored and one temple he did not destroy was Sri Ranganath Temple at Sri Ranga Patna where the temple priest cleverly manipulated him by pretending to read his horroscope , because Tipu wanted to conquer the entire Indian sub continent and become an emperor ! This is a well known fact told by the guides and temple priests at Sri Ranga Patna from where he ruled ! As far as Siddaramaiah is concerned, he is a short sighted leader only interested in power and  he is totally unfit to be a MLA , let alone be a CM,,,

This a case of intolerance and fear   The French are the last people on earth whom we can label as intolerant. They are the ones who have truly understood and implemented the true meaning of secularism and tolerance. For your information, France is the only country in Europe that has granted home to the largest number of Muslim immigrants, has implemented a common civil law for each and every French citizen, which has earned them wrath of their immigrant Muslim community, is the only country where media is truly free to express their views. It is home to Charlie Hebdo which casts equal amount of sarcastic comments on the believers of both  Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohhamed. This has attracted vicious attacks on Charlie Hebdo twice in the last few years, but that has not deterred them from their goal nor have they revised their thinking. Compare this with 'seculars' of India who can only slam Hindus and their brand of secularism is limited only to pleasing Muslims! France is the one country in world which practices true freedom and maturity of thoughts, the same thing they preach. This is what has earned them the wrath of ISIS who want to wipe out every kind of freedom. It is not the case of intolerance or fear in Paris bombings.

Please go through the back pages of this discussion. You can know how measures are taken to popularize Sanskrit. Additionally there are News channels like  DD Sanskrit. Sahitya academy has been publishing Sanskrit works since 1967. It is always good to see the entire discussion forum before expressing your opinion

But no one is coming in way of popularising Sanskrit. Itis only because its very limited uses no longer attracts students. a language will thrie if it is used in commerce. Many Indians are studying Chinese for obvious reasons.

suni51 wrote: As much I know there were both NRIs and RIs who had gone to witness Modi's performance in UK. And the Indians were not from Gujarat only but from all part of the country. I was hearing Cameroon and then Mody who was speaking in English but as soon as he asked "diwali kaise manai?" the entire scenario changed. After that it was Modi's show all the way despite a few things which he could have avoided speaking in a foreign land.  But what is the purpose of this performance. Modi is a A1 orator so he is going to impress the audiences (except in Bihar & Delhi). What is being celebrated. Are NRI's not foreign citizens and they are cheering the PM of another country. How would Indians react to an opposite situation in India.

There is no question of emotional statements here. I meant Sanskrit should be given its due place. I want both English and Sanskrit should survive side by side. People opt for that language that suits them.

Yoga s being oversold for entirely different reasons. Baba Ramdev is alleged to have said that it can cure cancer, but has not produced any case so far.

India is not involved in West Asian fights so chances are that attacks from there may not happen. But we have to be alert. Our real problem is from Pakistan and watch must be kept on elements in Nepal and Bangladesh.

You mean to say that Sanskrit will replace English or Hindi at the national level. Emotional statements are not going to help Sanskrit.

If these terrorists can easily attack on a country like France, then there is great threat to countries like India because in our security there are many loopholes and these terrorists can also enter our country and kill innocents. In some states we have seen supporters of ISIS.
