Such fatwa givers should be arrested and prosecuted. Laws for banning such fatwas should be made by government.

It seems what many want is restricted freedom of speech and not freedom of speech. Then let the restrictions be clearly laid out. Because views expressed under the right of freedom of speech are subjected to individual evaluations which vary from person to person. In view of JNU episode the restrictions should be made clear so citizens are also clear. A forum member has been advocating that Prashant Bhushan is a traitor and needs to be whipped. He always advocates harshest punishments and uses choicest offensive words against whom he does not like. Is this proper use of the right of freedom of speech which he wants to enjoy but denies similar right to others because he does not like their opinions.

She has taken a dig at a section of teachers whose credentials are suspect, they are out there to lead students into a world of anarchy and nihilism.I request you to go through her judgement. In fact, her judgement is very thought provoking. Each and everyone, from the political leaders to the teachers and the authorities of any educational institution, is responsible in making or breaking the students. They need to be streamlined in the positive direction but what happens is, the students' energy is always used for disguised motives and the young blood gets trapped and tempted. The students get divided on the basis of ideology which is quite natural but if any of them speaks against the country then it is unacceptable. To stop this trend the students must be guided properly which seems to be missing but now, in this case the truth must come out because blaming and arresting a student should be done by the police only and only on facts.

Politicians indulge in corruption because they are greedy, officers join or submit because they have to save their families, we are helpless and so have to tolerate. Great nations are not made this way.

I wonder how much time is being unproductively spent by many members in blaming Nehru and his descendents. Even if one were to agree with the solidly biased opinions made without basis and research and on hearsay what is being gained. Nehru led India when it was at its lowest point in economy and he or anyone in his place could not have made India a military power . Today we are the largest armaments buyers in the world because our economy is able to bear the expense and yet the infiltrators walk in. That should be the issue. How to make India stronger should be debated. Nehru bashing is not going to lead anywhere except making some babus and singhs happy again and again.

Jincy Aby replied to the topic Is this women empowerment? .
The situation of Muslim women are miserable in our country. Educated Muslim parents are always ready to give essential freedom to their daughters. But the number of educated people in Muslim community is very few. After giving basic education, they send their daughters to another families. The parents always give least importance to the feeling of their daughters. Some girls in Muslim community is very good in study and they wish to study more for getting job. But their parents are not ready to give higher education to them. For them, the duty of women are serving the family members. They are neither the opinion makers nor the decision makers within the family. They always involve in house-hold activities. For empowering Muslim women, proper education is must for them.

The question of women empowerment and their right to enter any temple or mosque or church are interlinked with each other. But I want to comment on what the author in this link wants say and I agree with her. The women in the Muslim community, with very few exceptions, are so downtrodden and exploited a lot, they are denied education, right to choose to their own partners, right to decide the no. of children they want etc. etc. the list is endless. Winning at those battles is far more important than having a right to enter inside a mosque.
I am sure there was a thread someone had posted earlier about a faction of women agitating to claim their rights to worship Lord Shani from the stone platform where women are banned to do so. What difference will it make if a woman is not allowed entry into temples or mosques or churches? Granted, it is not gender equality, but prupose will it solve if they are allowed entry to such places. To a person who is truly of faith, he or she is content enough to offer prayers from the confines of her own home and will find God in other places too, not just in temples and mosques.
For an average Muslim woman, what she needs is her basic right to education, freedom of though, speech, deed and right to make her own career and be independent. Agitating for entry into mosques will no give her any of those, the people who are behind this provocation are the ones who want to take her focus away from the real issues.
Very well presented @Kalyani Nandurkar Yes, it seems awkward when there is a bar on women from entering some specific worship place just like that when in olden days people of some particular caste were not allowed to enter the temples, even they were not allowed to drink water from particular wells and ponds and so on. This is done only to express supremacy which is not acceptable. Agitation are bound to take place but with this a bigger purpose does not get solved. Right to live, education and many more are the fundamental rights of the women. If those get curbed then life becomes useless and the point of women empowerment cannot even be dreamt of.

Bureaucrats are helpless to obey illegal orders of politicians. Bureaucrats are also human beings and have their families. You may know about IAS Khemka of Haryana, how he was torcher by politicians. Average transfer after six months!
Not many want to go through that so they end up being politicians chelas...In Karnataka, yesterday the power minister D K Shivakumar who is a known corrupt goonda with many charges pending against him, got angry because a trader from Sulia close to Mangalore called him directly to know about the power situation. The trader apparently called him many times because the minister kept cutting his calls instead of listening to him, finally the trader was put in jail on harrassment charges against the minister. This is the kind of politicians that India has been breeding over the decades..
Yes, it is very difficult for the officers to protest and if at all they do it then they face lot of trouble and we should not forget that where the maximum number of people are corrupt in a system there a few honest men do not get applauded rather they receive bashing. Actually, they are forced to commit dishonesty and they do so to safeguard their families.
