Nirad Chaudhry was a self styled anglophile and his views are not always right. He in fact was more British than the British themselves. Khajuraho withstood the 1000 years of Muslim rule. The Muslim rule did not make India poor. British rule reduced both India and China into abysmal poverty. These countries had around 25% share each in international trade when Britain took them over and it was reduced to 2% when they left. The prejudice against muslims has made many of our educated blind to this crippling blow by British to India from which we are still recovering. Countries not ruled by them also got railways. Let us be balanced and not one sided.

MG Singh replied to the topic BJP and coming elections in states.
I am a supporter of Modi and I can say that abroad people have a very positive outlook about him. But I am also a realist and Modi must rememeber that History can be unforgiving. His aim should not be to just win state elections, but change the social fabric of India. His promise on article 370 is hollow. Even OROP is saunctioned which is not as per the defination approved by 2 parliaments. He has succumbed to an agitation by Jats and given an affluent commmunity reservation in Haryana. How does he justify it? He has not taken the caste bogey head on, despite the RSS making some noises. Thus, I feel he is missing a golden chance and I have a lurking feeling that he will lose in 2019, because he promised change. Building roads etc is not change, but leaving a mark in history is something else.
nb To say he is better than Congress is not the issue.

MG Singh replied to the topic The importance of travelling and going places.
The Indians ipso facto throughout history have never been great travellers. Historically I am aware of only Guru Nanak who travelled to Mecca, Baghdad and Rameshwaram on to Lanka. This non-travel and insular approach have rubbed on to most Indians, but there is a new breed who are throwing old traditions to the wind and travelling. I myself have visited at least 36 countries. But everything takes time. My most cherished visit is to Cuba and Rio as an add on after my stint with the USAF

A contrbuting member cannot decide who should respond or comment. It shows lack of confidence to face alternative views. The country belongs to everyone and not to any particular school of thought. Similarly the forum belongs to everyone and no one can be barred from expressing reactions. The reason I want Admin to step in is to make policy statement regarding member's rights especially because a moderator is asking members not to respond and contesting with another moderator. Gulshanji you should not stop responding because that is what they want so that only their viewpoint sirvives .

MG Singh replied to the topic How to tackle juvenile criminals?.
The 21st century is different from any era of the past as the youngsters mature earlier. As such the law also must change. As I have pointed out the age of a juvenile is now 12 years in the USA, because boys of 13/14 are killing people with guns.I remember reading that a 13-year-old boy was recently sentenced to 25 years jail for a murder with his father's gun.
In India also, a change is called for.

It is ideas that should be shot at not the person's expressing them. There is freedom of expression which permits expression of different viewpoints. It can not be my way or highway on both sides. It is sad that individuals are being targeted in a forum which is meant for exchange of ideas. If only one school of thought has to be propagated then it is not a forum. It is pathetic to see moderator's fighting. Time administration should step in.
Vijai, I had decided not to write further in this thread. But I chose to respond to you. I agree that there are bound to be different view points and these need be expressed freely without fear or prejudice. There is no fight among moderators. Just as there is intolerance in the country, so is on this forum. Just as some are interpreting nation as Hindu Rashtra' instead of its composite nature, there are such elements here also- moderator or somebody else. I have no fight with any. I also seldom see the name of member making a post. I am impersonal. I just see contents and respond without bothering even about the identity of person making the post. I don't think adm. should interfere. As I am not fighting with any moderator, there is no fight among moderators.
Vijai, I request please go through the link and make your honest comment- palatable or not. If some view or style is unpalatable to somebody, he or she is simply immature.

Before pointing fingers towards others it would do well to look towards self first. BEfore accusing others of trying promote a particular ideology, do not forget that it is you who has been promoting the pseudo-socialists and secular ideology and it is only after that you openly started resorting to terms such as saffron terrorists and Hindu fascists, that I have opposed strongly against use of such terms. Your views are dear to you so are ours to us. And since you do realise that forums cannot work this way, try and tone down your own opinions and language before you dish out advise to others.
It is not possible to guide any member as to what he should express and in what style. I never tell others to tone up or down their style. I feel that any member may say what he thinks correct and also oppose others' views with proper logic and reason. But there need not be any personal comment against any one. I have always refrained from attacking any one personally. In fact, in response to some other member, I told him that all have their opinion and we have to tolerate.
We cannot treat forum as personal domain and reserve any thread for particular brand of thought. We are all educated and should be in a position to tolerate opposite views. Otherwise, the site will be like a crowded place where it is better to be silent than express your free views. It is against norms of any forum that certain thread is for participation by a particular school of thought only. This is what is most objectionable content of the opening post in this thread.
I have said what I needed to say. I will not further respond in this thread.

It dos not matter whether any member responds to any other member or not. But making sarcastic comments on any member or class of members is clearly undesirable and even against norms of this site. Personally, I have not so far commented in such manner about any. I don't feel that the site and particular discussions can work this way for long. If allowed to run this way, the site will be reduced to mouthpiece of a particular ideology. No doubt sane members will have no option but to discard the forum completely.
