Predicting monsoon accurately is not possible because of the very large number of variables involved whose behaviour and cross linkages keep constantly changing. The sophisticated instruments are catching the actual behaviour but prediction is assuming particular behaviour which may not take place due to ever changing environment parameters. What can be reasonably accurately predicted is the trend and overall quantum of monsoon rainfall.

Such things happen when there is an authoritarianism exists in the parents. I know several parents who are dogmatic and stick to their own time worn beliefs. Such parents think that their children remain as children forever. Parents with emancipated treat their children as friends.

It is you who are jumping to hasty conclusions by openly stating that it is Congress topmost leaders who have got the bribe when there is no evidence available for it at the moment. Now you are advising against drawing hasty conclusions. Great.

Yes, it does become easier with time and experience, but like I said in some other instance, there has to be willingness to adapt too, without which things become very difficult and unpleasant for all parties involved. I have seen how parents have refused to accept modern dress codes in their children and their insistence to make them stick to the parents' own notion of what is fashionable resulted in estrangement between parents and children. Here, it was only a trivial issue such as clothes, and modern outfits do not necessarily mean skimpy clothing, but the parents closed all lines of communication and now are left all alone as children refuse to have anything to do with them.
I agree Kalyani, dress preference always leads to a tug of war between the parents and daughters, boys are lucky that way ! Now here in my city all colleges have uniforms on week days and only n Saturday being half working days ,the students are allowed to wear any other dress and the girls and boys are waiting to dress up on those days. But even that has to be within the dress code that a college follows, so no short tops or short dresses above knees etc..One of my neighbors daughter is in college and she loves to dress up in dresses and it looks nice on her because she is a pretty girl with a trim figure. But her mother would have none of it , so the poor girl wears a salwar kameez and change into a dress at her friends place and change back before coming home..I know this and I am sure so do many others ! I wonder what would happen when the mother comes to know ..
Yes Usha, the example you gave I have seen in my own friends, and when the truth comes out all hell breaks loose. Instead the parents should sit down with their kids and talk about what is appropriate dress and what is not, explain their reasons for choosing a particular or not allowing a specific pattern etc with respect to consequences of wearing such dresses, their social bearing etc. Just putting the foot down and say 'such and such a dress will not be tolerated " will only make the kids rebel more. OF course, dressing is just one example. There are so many others if we see for clashes between parents and children.
Just today I was looking at the local news channels and there was a news item about a middle aged couple committing suicide because their daughter had gone off with the by she was in love with and the boy had called and told the parents that they would get married. I find this step by the parents very immature because once a child is a major one should let them make their own decisions, at the most parents can guide them or advise them , that is if they are ready to listen or else at least be part of their decisions, that way you can at least have some say when you see things not working out well..
That is the tragic tale of modern times. People expect their children to be all educated, well rounded and talented, go-getters, globetrotters and yet, do not allow kids to take their own decisions with respect to food choices, clothing and future life partners! A hotch potch of fairy tales with tragic ending.

Kamaraj belonged to an era when literacy levels in the country were very low and he was an honourable lone exception. Today it is a must to have at least a basic graduate degree. Otherwise it is unfair to millions who have to study to get degrees to be able to get good jobs. Oratory is no compensation for lack of degree or basic knowledge.

It was expected from concerned agencies to factor in the possibility that when the going was getting tough. Mallaya may escape to UK. This was being openly talked by common citizens as such escapes are not happening for the first time. It was therefore expected that government will move to prevent such happening. It has clearly failed to so like previous governments. Now what are you gaining by telling me to remain patient and trying to be an apologist for the government. The matter is over and done with. It will be a miracle if Mallaya comes back. You will now philosophically advise that miracles do happen, be patient. I will only say be realistic.

vijay replied to the topic What the Rise of Narendra Modi Means to India.
Such blind adulatory is not fair and restricts reasonable debate. The question to be asked is why have Nepal and Lanka drifted apart from India since last two years in spite of being wooed by Modi. You should not blame China because any country of that size and economy will try to spread its influence. Wasting energy on fighting Congress shows lack of statesmanship and misplaced priorities. It is the job of voters to decide whom they want to hold power. What did Modi expect, that on getting power everyone within and outside India would bow down? That has never happened. It is time BJP moved its attention from finishing an already depilated Congress to development agenda. Otherwise it is wasting an opportunity.

To a certain extent it is flawed feminism because Religion automatically comes with traditions and customs and to change that will only anger people, may be even women .. I agree that women need to have equal right to do things as they want. While I admire her single minded commitment to her cause, I would be happier if instead she spent some of her time on other more important women's issues ..there is plenty to pick from !

Mallaya was allowed to go and that is the naked fact. It does not matter whether it was UPA or NDA what matters is that how easy it is to hoodwink the powers who all the time are caught with their pants down or are they?. Blind supporters keep advising to be patient. In this country barring a few all are permanent patients. Only impotent weapon we have is keep blaming someone or the other. What have we gained by doing so? But all the time keep blaming. UK has the last laugh. It has got Mallaya and part of his loot. All I get is advice by some forum members that be patient and UPA was responsible. How does it help?

Because of the late arrival of Monsoon, In AP rivers Godavari and Krishna are drying up. The condition is very horrible in Telangana. . While on the other side, there are excess rains in both AP and Telangana, which damaged the crops. I don't know what would be the condition after the arrival of Monsoon in full swing.
