Hi, How have you been? If you are someone, who love trekking as a hobby, then Himalayas has the world famous treks. Some of them in the Kullu, Mandi and Kangra districts of Himachal Pradesh are always busy with the trekkers from throughout the world. Bhrigu lake is situated on the east of the famous Rohtang Pass, and is famous due to its natural beauty and its historical link with the Bhrigu Samhita.
How to Reach Bhrigu Lake
One can reach Manali either through NH-21, which starts at Chandigarh, or through the airways. Nearest domestic airport is Bhuntar airport, in Kullu district at a distance of about 50 km from Manali. Among the two treks, the longer one is from Vashisht to Bhrigu, and the shorter one is from Gulaba to Bhrigu lake. Gulaba does not have any human settlement, but is located at a distance of about 20 km from Manali along Manali to Leh road.
From Gulaba, you have to start climbing on feet along a mountain trail, which covers at-least a distance of 11 km and because it is steep, it will take atleast 5 to 6 hours to reach the Bhrigu lake, even if you are an experienced trekkers. It is wise enough to hire a guide, which you can do at Manali itself, but if you have someone in your friend circle who has trekked the trail, you can go for it. Remember the only thing available at the heights is the free water, that too until, snow doesn't melt completely, so take your food and water along with you.
Travel agencies offer number of trekking packages, so that also is one of the option with you. One can carry their camping bags and tents with them, if you want to do the night camping on the route. It helps in more ways, one is more enjoyment with the nature and other is that you will get sufficient amount of time to acclimatize with the higher elevations. If you rise up to higher elevations such as of Bhrigu lake which is situated at an elevation of 4240 m above MSL, in short time periods like, 6 to 13 hours, there are chances of becoming prey of altitude sickness.
Vashishat is near to Manali, only at a distance of 3 km, and is a tourist and religious place in itself. This is being said that sage Vashishat meditated at this place, and he used to visit the Bhrigu lake once in a three years period. The trek which he used was this one only, which starts from Vashishat. This is a longer trek as compared to that from Gulaba, and
