On expected lines South Africans won the one day series defeating hosts Wests Indies. South Africans by scrapping through a one wicket win at Port of Spain on 3rd June 2010 completed a 5-0 whitewash of the West Indies. Whitewashing a team and that too in a 5 match series is never easy because there is always a possibility that the winning team loses their intensity midway in the series or the losing team suddenly manages to find some form in a particular more so if luck and some decisions go their way.
South Africans performance is all the more praise worthy as West Indies were playing at home and is the norm the home team usually gets some decisions too in their favour but to South Africa's credit they overcame all the obstacles to thrash the West Indies. As far as West Indies is concerned, it is a hard feeling to be whitewashed because they were the ones who were accustomed to whitewashing teams almost every time in a test or one day series.
However one thing in cricket is statistics sometimes do not reveal the real picture as the West Indians had a chance in 3 of the 5 losses. In the second one dayer West Indians needed 18 of two overs to win the match and the fourth one day was even closer with South Africans winning of the last ball of the match. In the final one dayer South Africans managed to eke out a one wicket win with only two deliveries to spare. In the end result the closes finishes do not matter as after 10 years if one sees archives of results it shows a 5-0 whitewash in favour of South Africa.
