The purpose using meta element in web pages is to provide information that is relevant to browsers or search engines like describing what is the content of the document. Meta information of a web document is kept inside the head element.

How meta tags are written in web pages

Some search engines on the web use the name and content attributes of the meta tag to index the web page you create. I am going to give you an example of a meta element which defines a description of your page.

But unfortunately some search engines have stopped using meta tags since some web developers used meta tags for spamming, like repeating key words to give pages higher ranking.
