Ram and stripes
* Ravi needs someone to wake him up every morning. His mother has to help him get ready for school. His father has to put his books in his bag. His sister has to put his lunch in the box. Ravi never does anything by himself.
Should Ravi make other do his work for him? What would happen if his mother or father or sister were not able to help him one day? Should he learn to be independent?
*All living things learn to look after themselves.
Ram found a baby squirrel one day on a tree. He asked his parents if he could care for the squirrel. His parents agreed to let him keep the squirrel. They decided to call it ``Stripes’’.
At first, stripes were shy, but he soon grew close to Ram and after that to the rest of the family. He began to move around the house with no fear. He loved playing hide and seeks with Ram.
One day, all of a sudden, stripes ran away. He disappeared among the branches of a tree. Ram was sad and worried unit hi mother explained what had happened.
``Stripes’ has grown up and become independent like you,’’ said mother. ``You take a care of your self. You get ready for school, clean your room and do a lot of things by yourself-independently.
A stripe is now like that I am sure that if he really needs anything he will come back to us for help. Do not worry about him’’.
His mother’s words made Ram very happy and relieved.
It is important to be independent. People must learn to take care of themselves. There are simple things you can do by yourself. For example, you can get ready for school by yourself. You can take care of the things around you; like your books, toys and clothes. Keep them in their proper places. Even stripes the squirrel learns to take care of itself. Shouldn’t you do the same?
An independent person does things without help from others.
