Students are the makers of modern India. the question weather students should be allowed to take part in politics has been wholly debated. Some politician, educationists and teachers think that the studentsshould be given practical training in politics. being the future citizens of the country they must get primary and practical knowledge of democracy. opposition political parties speak in favour of students participation. in the battle of freedom, students have played their active role with the nationalists and patriots of our country. they made their memorable contribution in uprooting the foreign rule from our country. but now, when are country is free, the question of students taking part in politics is disputed one.
Different views regarding the Relation of Students and Politics: To the orthodox people, politics leads students far away form the goal of their life. the foremost aim of students is to complete their studies and be able to join practical life. They cannot serve two masters at a time. by taking part in politics, they shall neglect their fundamental duties of academic enrichment and moral character. hence inspite of taking an active part in the politics of their country, they should devote themselves whole-heartedly to their studies. modern people and people with revolutionary temper are the opinion that no age is prescribed for taking part in politics. in free country, politics an important part of education and modern life. hence to cut students off from politics is too deprive them of full knowledge of modern life. students should not be prohibited from their interest in politics as the training of politics is a kind of apprenticeship for practical life.
according to modern people, proper political training should be given to students in schools and colleges through debates, discussions and lectures and a healthy outlook towards politics should be formed. students have got every right to study the political problem and the burning questions concerning their own country as well as the world at large.
Disadvantage of Students by taking active part in Politics: The first disadvantage the students suffer when they participate in politics is the general neglect of their studies. Politics is, in fact, the game of scoundrels. those who have no interest in reading and writing talk about the need of political training for the coming generation. they cut a sorry figure at examination and then repent, but it is too late when they are grown up, they are ill equipped for the job. they lack an all-round general education. Assault, stabbing and murder take place the campus only because politics is allowed to enter into the academic world. the various political parties must agree to spare the student community from politics. they should not involved students in their activities. the political parties should not support financially or otherwise any contestant in student elections.
Unions and Associations: Unions and Associations are meant to ventilate students grievances in education institution. this work can be done even without forming unions and associations. A few privileged students money in the name of training for democracy. rich students never care about the grievances of the poor ones. they either develop sweet relations with the authorities for their selfish ends or challenge their authority on baseless grounds. hence unions and associations are dangerous to academic life.
The government has reduced the minimum age for having the right to vote. hence those who wants to take part in practical politics, are free to contest an election for either Assembly or the Parliament. Mostly the talk of practical politics is rooted in the vested interests of the rich. the mischief-mongers in educational institutions want to have a privileged position.
It is true that politics is not a game for half- developed powers and immature minds of young men and women. students need great cultivation and discipline before taking active part in politics. if students are half-education and ill-equipped, they will be harmful to themselves as well as to their country. they should utilize students life to the maximum. Crafty and cunning politicians may deceive and dupe them by inciting and exploiting them. they should keep before them the honour and the integrity of the nation and should save themselves from the exploitation by those cunning politicians. students may take an active part in social and constructive programmes run by their government. they may observe and absorb the various movements with the help of their teachers and parents, they may show a keen interest in a peaceful manner. peaceful debates will help them to form their views. thus they will be better prepared for life when they complete their studies. In the end, we can say that the students should know the political position of the country, be acquainted with the political problems and also think over these. they may express their views on political problems and but they must refrain from active participation during their students career.
