So let’s not get very deep into its history, and start with its modern history, and do you know when its modern history starts? It’s still long back dude, as have to start our discussion from 1882, to know what happened in Egypt. Everything was ok, and fine till the 1880’s, when Khedive Tewfiq was serving the country as Prime Minister. It all started in 1881 when there was a military coup in Egypt under the Army head Ahmed Urabi, who dismissed Khedive Tewfiq from the Prime Minister post.
So Britain and France never want to miss this chance of making their colonies in one of the Africa’s best country, Egypt. So they gathered their force at the Suez Canal and they finally managed to defeat the Egypt Army at Tel El Kebir, which was led by their leader Ahmed Urabi. So they also restored peace in the country and also made Khedive Tewfiq as the Prime Minister of the company. But they used this as a chance and in the name of maintaining political stability , they started to dominate them, because even before this they started to finance the country from 1876.
But, Lord Cromer, who was the Britain’s Chief reprehensive for Egypt, at that time had a different plan and he viewed this invasion of Egypt in a long term plan. He was very much keen in using the resources of Egypt and especially cotton, which is famous and cheap in Egypt. He saw the cotton economy as the money growing field and so he planned to export the cotton at a very cheaper rate and also earned many money for his country. But he didn’t realize that very soon than expected that Britain will leave Egypt.
But soon the Egyptians want the British soldiers to leave the country and the demonstrations were started in March 1919 and this has later become the First revolution of Egypt. And as a result of this revolution, many people lost their lie and after 3 years in 1922, the British Government declared the Kingdom of Egypt as independent and Sarwat Pasha was given the post of the prime minister.
But still the British played a vital role even after declaring Egypt independence and they also involved in the forming og government, financial control and other departments also. The Briish also held Sudan, Canal region and also some of the exterior portion of the Egypt and Egyptian Government also not willing to leave Sudan, and they gathered their troops there and the want to make Sudan as the integral part of Egypt. But the British rejected this and all the three that includes, National Political organization which was opposed by the British, The king Faud and the British itself.
However in 1936 King Fuad died in 1936 the 16 year old Farouk succeeded him. But that was time Italy was very powerful and thei invasion of Ethiopia made the British to think again of their presence in Egypt and at last in 1949 they left the country, including the Suez Canal.
Later in 1958 Egypt came up with an extremely different idea, by which they along with th republic of Syria formed a state and it is known as the, which was existed till 1961 when Syria doesn’t want to continue to be in UAR.Then the period of Nasser came and during his period the Egyptian, Syrian and Jordanian armed forces were routed by the Israelis and this made Nasser to resign. As a result of this Israel captured and occupied
i) The Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza Strip from Egypt
ii) Golan Heights from Syria
iii) West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan.
As a result of this till the Middle East countries suffer from war mainly between Israel and Palestine.
After Nasser’s death Sadat, who was the Vice President at that time, was elected President of Egypt and Sadat was concentrated mainly on the foreign relations but many felt that he was not liked by many people. But his period was lasted for around a decade and after that on October 6, 1981, he was assassinated by Islamic extremists and so his deputy Hosni Mubarak, was elected President and he serves as the President of the country till now and his image is shown below
