-E. Dickenson.
The saying holds true in this case. Some people are just so rigid backboned that any kind of disability can’t break the down. In each and every failure they stand up with twice will and fight with new spirit. But don’t forget their goal. The Milton Hershey is also this kind of person. He was from self made family. His father was horticulture farmer. His father transferred after every 2-3 years that is why he can not become a stable one. He was not at all interested in his father’s job. Books are his real friends and drawing is the hobby. After some years his father left their home ay once. In this extreme circumstances his education left at 4th class. After that had done a printing job but his mind was fully in making delicious candies. Then he decided to start the business of marketing candies. On 4th July 1876 at Philadelphia he sold his first stock of candies. At the beginning he was not so perfect in the preparation but thereafter he commands his mastery on that. For smooth texture of candy, continuous stirring of caramel is required but the caramel is so hard to stir that sometimes it results in backache and spinal ache. Doing this task Milton had developed his biceps and triceps. He done this job for many years and he had lost half of his energy. But comparatively he was not getting much income. His left hand was fully scorched by the melted sugar and it was looking awful. Finally after long period of six years he was not satisfied with his business, he decided to close down it. His relatives were also waiting him to stop this idiocy. After that his father called him at Colorado (Denver) for helping in his mining job. He worked there for some years but at that time there exists servility. The life was sucked by the contractors.
At one night Milton was kidnapped but he was also a bravo he stroked gun on the kidnappers and ran away from there.
“Men are born to succeed not to fail”
-Henry David Thoreau
Was the motto of his life then he again decided to start his business that is of candies. He tried some new ideas in the preparation process and he discovered that adding milk in the mixture increases the richness of candy. He applied this formula in the preparation but at every place he got failure. First in New Jersey at Morristown, then in New York all his experiments got failed. For last try he left for Lancester, there his fortune sparks there and he got an order of 500 pounds. Then he was getting orders on orders.
In 1893 he attend the international industrial fair, from there he brought a German machine of making chocolate. He decided to go with the chocolate business.
“As in the case of all branches of art, success depends in a very large measure upon individual initiative and exertion, and cannot be achieved except by dint of hard work”
- Anna Pavlova
In 1900 Milton sold his candy factory for 10 lack dollars and concentrated on his chocolate business but still he was not satisfied.
Still they didn’t get the mastery in that. He started a new chocolate factory at Pennysylvania, where transportation facilities are not available easily but raw material, milk and workers are abundant. And now that is largest chocolate factory in the world. The company provides 114 types of chocolate. Then he introduced Hershey’s chocolate bar. They launched a new chocolate ‘Kisses’, it got the name because when the chocolate dropped from the conveyor belt it sounds like a kiss. He spends lots of dollars on advertisement.
Today Hershey is the world’s biggest company. In 2000 the company was sold for 422 crore dollars. At that time the company had branches in 90 countries and 15700 were the employees and still growing. Milton erected an orphan age home in the memory of his wife Catherine swini (kitty).Today also the 65% of the gross income of the company donated to the orphanage. In his old age he established a new big branch to Cuba. Then he returned to America and at the age of 88, he ends his life’s journey…….
