Ancient Classical Music was famous throughout the ages, even during the Mughal Age. Later, it was developed and concerted by the Indian singers all over the world. One of the singer who made Indian Classical Music famous was Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. He made platform for Indian Classical Music at an international level.
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, world famous Indian classical music legend, was born on 14th Feburary,1922, in Karnataka. His father was headmaster of a school and grandfather was a famous 'kirtankar'. Pandit Bhimsen Joshi was a child when he ran away from his house in search of a music teacher.
He was 19 years old when he performed first in a public concert. His guru was Sawai Gandharwa. He belonged to 'Kirana Gharana'. He got his first break in a birthday party. He presented 'Miya Malhara' raga, which was not taught by his Guru. He also sang 'Chandrika Janu Theiya' song. Both was liked by the people, who made him singer Bhimsen Joshi.
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi has proved himself as the best Indian Classical Singer not only in India but also in Italy, France, Canada and the USA. He has received many awards like Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Tansen Samman Award,Maharashtra Bhushan, Karnataka Bhushan, etc. for his distinguished singing.His main achievement is his band of disciples who have still made our Indian Classical Music alive all over the world. On 4th November,2008, he was honoured with India's highest civilian award. He was awarded 'Bharat Ratna', for his unique blend of singing.
He devoted his whole life for the sake of Indian Classical Music. He made our culture and music immortal. He proved that singing has nothing to do with religion, caste, creed and language. He is the first Indian Musician whoes concert's advertisement posters were seen in USA. No other singer could give so many concerts, as yet.
