The Tsunami Disaster
The tsunami phenomenon is such a disaster as brought destruction on a vast scale in India, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia. but India, Indonesia and Ceylon were the worst hit countries, where according to an estimate more than two hundred thousand people were reported to have been killed. Volcanos, Cyclones, Storm and havoc caused by sea waves expose the hollowness of man's claim of conquering nature. tsunamis can savagely attack coastlines, causing devastating property damage and loss of life. nature keeps reminding man that it is beyond his power to control it.
A Massive Tsunami Disaster:
December 26 2004 will always be remembered as a darkest day in India, Ceylon, Indonesia and Malaysia and other nearby areas. A violent rupture on the sea floor along a 1,000 km. fault line triggred a quake of magnitude at the west coast of northern Sumatra in Indonesia,according to the news, at 6 A.M. There are a lot of people turned jobless, homeless and injured and women were widowed. A massive tsunami- travelling at speeds of upto 700 km/hr., this resulted in the ocean bed rising more than meters and displacinghumdreds of cubic kilometers of the overlaying water. It fanned across the Indian ocean striking coast lines with walls of water and high as meters.
The Meaning of Tsunami:
Tsunami is a Japanese word where 'tsu' means harbor and 'nami' means wave, word with the English translation," harbor wave." sometimes tsunami were reffered to as "tidal waves" and as "seismic sea waves" by the scientific community. A tsunami's impact upon a coastline is dependent upon the tidal level at the time a tsunami strikes, tsunami are unrelated to the tides . The terms "seismic sea waves" is also misleading.
Loss caused by Tsunami Waves:
The world was left shaken after the Christmas. Thae magnitude of tragedy was revealed over 8500 dead and millions left homeless, when the waves shrinked back. The Sumatra earthquake that recorded on the Ricter Scale has triggred a tsunami that lashed across the coast of nations. Marina beach and Andaman & Nicobar islands group had been revaged by the killer waves. Dead bodies were lying scattered along the coastalline and they were given a massive burial. the fishermen living along the coastal line suffered casualties as well as financial loss. they lost their families, homes & the means of earning their livelihood.

Tsunami waves had caused havoc in several countries of the world.
** 1 November 1775 Tsunami Portugal and much of Europe - It was one of the biggest earthquake in history occurred in Atlantic Ocean. More than 60,000 people were killed in Europe.
** 26 August 1883 Tsunami affected Indonesia- It was one of the most impressive natural diaster ever recorded in history. more than 36,000 people were killed.
** 15 June 1896 Tsunami affected Japan - This earthquake occured near of the Japanese port city of Sanriku. more than 26,000 people were killed.
** 22 May 1960 Tsunami affected Chile and Pacific Nation - The biggest earthquake ever recorded at the time occured of the coast of Chile, a nation of South America, where about 2,000 people died.
** 28 March 1964 Tsunami affecting West coast of North America - It is a biggest eartquake in history near college Fjord in Price William sound of the coast Alaska in United states. now known as Good Friday Tsunami. There were total 106 people killed in Alaska.
** 16 August 1976 Tsunami Affected the Phillippines - An earthquake occured in the Moro Gulf a few miles away from the coast of the Phillippine island of Mindanao, over 5,000 people were killed there due to Tsunami.
** 17 July 1998 Tsunami affected Papua New Guinea - an Earthquake generated an undersea landslide, which is turned cause the Tsunami. Approx 2,200 people were killed.
** 26 December 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami Affected Southern Asia and Eastern Africa - The destruction caused by the recent Tsunami waves of December 26, 2004 was the greatest one. Tsunami waves caused immense loss to life and property. Many well off people were rendered poor and homeless in a few minutes. Many returned home these was nothing and no one left. Indonesia lost more than a 105,000 of its citizens. In sri Lanka too people suffered haevy loss of life and property. the earthquake have killed over the 280,000 people in twelve countries which is Indonesia, India, Thailand, Maldives, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Somalia, Tanzania, Myanmar, Andaman and Nicobar islands, Kenya, Seychelles, Maldives.
Earthquake Generate Tsunami:
Tsunami can be genertaed when the sea floor sbruptly deforms and vertically displaces the overlying water. Waves are formed as the displaced water mass, which acts under the influence of gravity attempts to regain its equalibrium. When large area of the sea floor elevate or subside a tsunami can be created. Subduction earthquakes are particularly effective in generating tsunamis.
