There was a little fir tree. It was beautiful. But it was sad.
`` I wish me ad green leaves,’’ it said.
*All other trees have green leaves.

- So, I wish green leaves too.
- 1) Then birds will build nests on me.

*She said, ``you shall have green leaves.’’
- Next morning, when the little fir tree woke up, it had green leaves.

- Just then a hungry goat came that way. She ate all the green leaves. The little fir tree was sad again.
*`` I wish I had gold leaves,’’ prayed the goddess.
- The goddess of the forest heard the little fir tree. When it woke up the next morning, it was covered with gold eaves.
*``How happy I am!’’ said the fir tree.
- Along came a man. He plucked all the gold leaves the little fir tree.
*The little fir tree was again. ``I wish I had glass leaves’’, it said. ``Goats will not eat y glass leaves. Men will not steal my glass leaves’’.
- The goddess of the forest heard the little fir tree. When it woke up the next day it had glass leaves. The glass leaves shone brightly in the sunlight.
*``How happy I am!’’ said the little fir tree.
- Just then, a strong wind began to blow. The air broke all the glass. The little fir tree was very sad.
*``I wish I had my needles again. I want my old style. That is the better,’’ it said. ``goats will not eat. Men will not touch. The air will not break. I wish I had my needles again.’’
- The Goddess the forest heard the little fir tree.
*``will be happy with your needles?’’ she asked.
- ``Yes! I want’’. Said the tree. ``I only want to be myself. I do not want to be like someone else.’’
*When the little fir tree woke up the next mooring, it had its needles again.
- `` Thanks goddess! How happy I am!’’ said the little fir tree. `` I am my self once again.’’
