That boy was nine years old.  His mother is on the death bed.  She called the boy near to her and asked, "Would you promise me these?"

"Yes mom!", the boy replied in tears.

"You should not touch alcohol.  Should not take tobocco in any form.  Should always read bible."

She had seen many people who spoiled their lives because of the former two bad habits.  So had had taken the promise from

his son and died.  The boy did not break his promise given to his mother at any time during his lifetime.  Had not she taken the promise from her son, he would have been spoilt and the world would not have heard his name!

The boy is none other than American President Abraham Lincoln.
