She was a rich woman and lived in a big house. So Ram thanked God for the offer she made. At first the children were not willing to go but their father and the aunt coaxed them finally they agreed to live with their aunt.
After they went there, for the first two days the aunt was full of affection for them. Then things began to change. Suresh and Savita were made to do all the work in the house. They had to see to the needs of the aunt’s children. The aunt’s children scolded them and even beat them. Suresh and Savita were treated like servants. They were not sent to school. So Suresh and Savita were very unhappy. They remembered their mother and her loving care. Their father thought that they were happy with the aunt as that was the idea she gave him.
Finally, Suresh and Savita decided to leave and find their own way out. They decided not go back to their father as that would only add to his worries. So one day they escaped from their aunt’s house, when everyone was asleep. They did not know what to do\. They sat on a bench far away from the house and began to think what to do next. Just then, a man came by and started talking to them. He asked them to accompany him. Though he was talking to Suresh, he had his eyes in Suresh.
Luckily a good man came along and helped the children. He took them home and gave them some food and a place to sleep. He had his wife treated them kindly. In the morning, the children left.
Suresh got a job in a small hotel and joined a night school. Savita also started doing some odd jobs to earn money. Suresh looked after Savita and took good care of her.
One day, when Suresh was working in the hotel, one of the customers-an acquaintance of Suresh’s father recognized him. Asked Suresh why he was working in a hotel. Suresh told him every thing that had happened. That friend informed Suresh’s father, who immediately came to the hotel and brought the children back home. They started attending their former school once again. By now they had learnt to manage the house, go to school and also money.
Although their father showered all love and affection on them, the memories of their mother always made them very sad. They mused, `Whatever it may be, life without a mother is worthless. We should not have faced all these problems if our mother had lived. We can get all things, but not mother’s love!’ All of them missed the mother, but they all worked hard and lived together happily. Suresh’s father started a servicing center of his own and their economic condition improved.
Their aunt again visited them. She was no more the same rich proud lady. Her children had got into bad company and wasted all the money. They were all in trouble now. She realized how Suresh and Savita had suffered the loss of their mother. She apologized for treating them badly. Suresh, Savita and their father forgive the aunt and tried to help her and her family in every possible way.
