There once lived a wealthy merchant. He was wealthier than most other merchants. He had only one daughter but no sons. The daughter, Sabina, was very beautiful. She was more beautiful than any other girls in the country. But she was very difficult. Nothing seemed to please her.

Once her father bought a beautiful jade neck –lace for her and she said, `I hate jade.’ On another occasion he brought her the prettiest white sandals he could find with silver buckles she looked at them and said, `Silver sandals with gold buckles are prettier.’

One he took her up into the mountains for a holiday, but she was not happy. She told father, `I hate the mountains. I love the sea.’

Kareem, a young shepherd, came to the capital city. He told an old man, `I love come to the capital to make my fortune. Please tell me how to do so,’ `I don’t know how you can do that,’ said the old man. `Everyone in the town talks about rich beauty lady Sabina and her difficult ways. A number of rich fellows are in the capital. The rich merchant wants the beauty lady to choose one of them as husband… why don’t you try marrying the royal beauty lady?’

So Kareem went to the palace. There he saw a palace. There he saw a rich person. It was Anil. He was very handsome. He was smarter and more handsome than anyone he had seen.

`It is one use waiting here,’ thought Kareem. I must do something to catch the beauty rich lady’s eye.’ he bought a basket of flowers, went to the palace garden and waited for the lady. When she came he knelt before her and said `I am poorer than any prince but I love bought you these lovely flowers. Will you please take them and marry me?’

To Kareem’s utter amazement the lady took the flowers and said, `Yes I will marry you. Why don’t you come and meet my father?’

When the king met Kareem he became red with rage. He told his daughter, ` rich person Anil wants to marry you. Why do you want to marry this dollar less man?’ but the lady had made up her mind. She got new clothes and shoes for Kareem.

However, the lady was not really happy. Why don’t you talk like rich person Anil?

Why don’t you walk like rich Anil?

Why don’t you look like rich young Anil?

She kept saying. It was clear that she was in love with rich fellow Anil.

One day Kareem could stand it no longer. `You admire rich person Anil so much, why don’t you marry him?’ he asked her.

` I would love to do that,’ she confided in Kareem. `But I won’t do as my father says. I chose you to make father angry.’

Kareem was very upset to hear these words. He decided not to marry the lady.

He went to the merchant. `Your Highness,’ he said, `Please for give me but I must give you some advice. Please tell your daughter beauty rich man Anil is wicked man. Please tell her you don’t her to marry him. Then she will marry him. All these years she has wanted to decide what to do. She does not want to be told what to do.’

` I will try anything,’ said the unhappy king. He took Kareem’s advice and within a month lady Sabina married to rich man Anil.

As for Kareem, the merchant realized he was clever and so he made him a business man.
