This is an interesting story of how a bank is built in a small town named Yuda in America in 1960's. The bank had a building made of wood. To make the building more strong and to prevent it from fire accidents, the bank decided to build a two storey building with bricks. The directors of the bank organised a meeting for this and discussed how much cost it will take , raw materials needed etc. It was calculated that they needed 50,000 bricks to construct this building.
Unfortunately they could not get that much number of bricks nearby. They have to get it from a place which is approximately 314 kms away from the construction place. The bank does not have any transport facility on its own. So it has to rent transport for getting the bricks. It seemed that they have to spend 15 penny to get one brick to their place. As it was too costly and they couldn't afford that at the moment, they decided to drop the building construction plan. At that time, a director who was referring the postal rules and regulations said that "Why can't we get bricks through post?". As per the postal rules, the cost for a parcel weighing upto 5 pounds is 7 penny. As this is less compared to the previous option, they decided to get the bricks through post.
A parcel cannot weigh more than 50 pounds. So they decided to get bricks in sets of ten. Like this they gathered about 5,000 bricks. At that time, the post man was annoyed at bringing bricks daily and made a complaint to his higher officials. But there was no rule available at that time to prevent this. So the postal department made a new rule like "Maximum allowed weight of the parcel that is sent to a address on a day is 200 pounds". In this way, the bank can get only 40 bricks per day. This new rule came as a setback to the building construction as it is really difficult to construct the building if the bricks come very slowly.
The directors conducted a meeting and discussed the situation. They decided to get help from the customers, well wishers of the bank and local people. They sent letters to all these people requesting them to give their addresses so that they can send the bricks to them and get it later. Many people accepted this request and gave their addresses to the bank. After they received the parcel, many people came immediately to the bank and gave the bricks. Like this the bank was constructed with the co-operation of all the people in the town.
