Long ago there lived a young man named Somon. One day he was riding his horse thorough a forest. He came to a pool of clear water. There he saw a beautiful doe. The doe’s fawn was also standing with her.
Somon looked at the mother and the fawn. The little deer had light brown eyes. Its shin was smooth and brown. It had a tiny tail and a white spot on its forehead.
`What a lovely little deer!’ thought Somon? `It will be a nice pet for me.’
Somon got off hi horse and went near the mother and her baby. They did not run away; they were not afraid.
Somon caught the baby deer, tied its legs and put it on his horse. Then he rode off.
The poor doe ran after the horse. She was looking at her fawn. How could she live without her baby! When Somon looked at her, he saw tears in her beautiful eyes.
`A mother’s tears!’ thought Somon. `I can’t see a mother’s tears.’
At once Somon untied the fawn and put it down near the mother. The doe looked at Somon. There was love in her large eyes. She thanked Somon in her heart.
Somon was rode back home. He was tired and lay down on his bed. There was a silver moon in the sky. It shone on the floor of Somon’s room. Soon Somon was fast asleep.
In his sleep Somon heard soft and sweet music. Somon woke up! A bright light filled the room. An angle stood there before him!
`Somon,’ said the angle, `You took pity on the poor doe. God is pleased with you. You will become a king one day. Be kind to your people then’.
After some years a princess fell in love with Somon. She was the only daughter of her father, the king. Somon married the princess, and got his father –in-law’s throne. He was a very kind and wise ruler. The people were happy, and they loved their new king.
