We know that God is present everywhere. He hearts what we say and sees what we do. That is why we must always do what is right. We must avoid what is wrong. It is, in fact, God’s law for man. God has given us power of thinking that we call reason. Also, a voice from within us seems to speak, ``You must do it because it is right’ or `you must avoid it because it is wrong.’
This voice within us is nothing but God’s voice. It is called conscience. The conscience is a great judge and true guide. It is the caption of our life’s ship. It is our best and true friend. How can it guide to a wrong path?
When we think of doing something our conscience alerts us. It speaks n a forceful voice. Explaining the reasons it commands, `Do it’ or `Don’t do it’. If we follow its command we gain. But if we ignore its voice, we suffer.
Suppose a person thinks of stealing a box. His conscience at once gives a command not to do this bad act. If he hears this voice and acts on it, he will leave the idea of stealing. He will enjoy perfect peace of mind. A matchless joy shall fill his mind. But if he ignores the voice of his conscience, he will steal the box. He will lose all peace of mind. His conscience will be angry with him. It will become indifferent to him end its voice become less forceful.
If the person thinks to repeat that bad act, the voice of the conscience will not speak with that force. The repetition of bad acts by a person enrages his conscience. It stops guiding him. Thus the person loses a true friend and guide. His peace of mind ids gone and he suffers from mental tension.
Our conscience is a very potent witness of whatever we do. He, as a true friend, points out our mistakes to us. A person may escape the punishment of his misdeeds. But his conscience is there to curse him. It tells him that there is another court that can punish him. Thus the person is never at peace unless he sets his wrongs right.
Macbeth was a great lord in Scotland. He was very brave and courageous. He won many victories for his king. One day three witches met him. They told him that he would seize the throne one day. Macbeth was a very honest man. He did not like to do anything bad order to get the throne. His conscience supported him in such thoughts. But his wife was a very bad lady. She invited the king to her house as guest. She incited her husband to kill the king in sleep. Macbeth did this at the instance of his lady. He was now the king of Scotland.
But Lady Macbeth lost all peaces of mind. Her conscience accused her of murder. It was she who had incited her husband to commit the murder.
She was never normal. She considered herself to be a murder. Though she was a queen now, yet she had no happiness. Her ways had become odd and funny. Her conscience was always cursing her for what she bad done.
At night she should behave in a strange manner. When all were asleep, she would get up and wash her hand time and again and mutter something. It was clear that her crime was agitating her mind. She saw bloodstains on her hands and so she tried to wash them off. The doctor and the servants watched her from behind the curtain. Thus her crime became known to the people of Scotland.
Learn to hear the voice of conscience and follow it. It is god’s voice. It will save you from evil. If you ignore it, you will take to evil. You will have to suffer for your misdeeds.
