All of us are groomed to have different ambitions in our lives by our parents. Some parents want their children to become doctors and put their ambition in their mind while some others want their children to become teachers, engineers or lawyers. While most parents want their children to become doctors, engineers of lawyers, the children once they grow up sometimes nurture a different ambition. Some of them crave to make a mark for them in entertainment industry like a movie star or some would want to get into social service as a politician and serve the people.
Many of us never achieve our childhood aspirations and because of some compulsions of limitations we end up getting a job. Once we join a job at about 22 years the pressure starts in life, we have to start saving to get settled in life so as to get married before we attain the age of 28-30 years. Once we get married we start planning to have kids. Then the focus shifts to schooling of kids and in no time we start planning to finance higher education of our kids and then to get our kids married. Within no time we find ourselves close to 55 to 60 years which is the normal retirement in India. A person once he joins at around 22 years all of a sudden finds himself close to 60 years without knowing how years have rolled by, because his mind was focused on one pressure or another till his retirement.
In no other profession does a person have to worry so much because there is no retirement. A politician too probably joins at around the same age as a employee, but he need not worry about retirement since there is no age limit in politics. In fact a politician would get the opportunity to rule a State or a Country after the age of 60 which is the age an employee would have retired having become ineligible to work of the company he used to. A doctor or a lawyer actually would be having their best times of their lives after the age of 55 or 60 having gained valuable experience in their respective areas and would have set up a nursing home or consultancy charging whopping fees from their patients and clients.
An employee retires mentally much earlier than the actual retirement date thinking about his own future, the future of his family without his income or as to how to manage with the meagre pension he gets from the organization he used to work. In some cases the worry for retiring employee especially if he has not saved much would be thought of whether his grown up sons would take care of him after his retirement. It has been observed in many organizations that a persons health get affected from 57 years onwards if he is due to retire at the age of 60. This is because of the repeated stress he puts on himself thinking of post retirement problems.
When there is no retirement in other areas of work, an employee should also be allowed to work. The only criteria should be that the employee is fit and efficient and willing to continue work. Nothing else should matter.
