Oh thou strong ungrieving leaflet
Thine winglets placid, unflustered,
From hostile winds thou no grief get
And protect the blooms, in clusters.
Thou shine with the velvet rain drop
That caresses you and believes
That thou can tame the untamed nights
And weed them out to sunshine see.
Thou grow in length, thou grow in width,
Adding to thine quiet splendor.
The caterpillar tickles with
Legs so tender, smiling under.
Thou tame another howling night,
And wake up smiling, dew above.
Thou make the sun smile, golden, bright,
And the butterfly, love avow.
Thou bathe in glory, mighty leaf,
Though as puny as thou might seem.
Thou teach us strength and we believe
To not let go now of our dreams.
