ATM is an abbreviated for Automated Teller Machine. It is usually located at busy places. It is a small place located in every area wherein there are at the most 2 ATM machines at one location. Needless to say that these ATMs are owned by banks. These machines contains specific amount of money. for example, these machines contains money around about 5 lacs. These machines are designed in such a way that they never go wrong in counting of any amount of money. By this information, ATMs can be said as computerized electronic machines that allows its customers to access their bank account in the event of making cash withdrawals, checking balance without going to bank or waiting is a queue to withdraw money.There might be queue outside ATMs as well but these queues do disperse at a faster rate as compared to bank queues.
These machines are designed in such a way that even if some one tries to steal the money, present inside the machine, must not be able to. ATMs are located worldwide. Even , some of the indian banks, which are international, have their ATMs in other countries as well. These banks are Bank of Baroda and others. These machines have camera located in it and capturing every second of activity carried out in a day in an ATM. In order to access bank accounts and withdraw money, banks have provided ATM cards to its customers, which they can use to withdraw money and carry out other operations that ATM supports.
These cards are nothing but ATM cards which are issued to its customers on their request.These cards contains two sides. Frontal side of ATM cards contain or display Bank's name, name of the customer, Card number, its expiry, type of card, whether it is VISA card, Gold VISA, Masters card and so on. Back side of card contains one magnetic strip in which all data about a customer like his name, etc.
Along with magnetic strips, it contains one small patch where card holder has to sign it to make the card eligible for usage and also, it has CVV number usually a 3 digit PIN number, sometimes, it is a 4 digit number. It has to be protected from other people as it is Personal Identification Number and is unique in this world. So, whenever a person enters in any ATM location, he is been asked to enter his ATM card.
After inserting ATM card, ATM machine asks user about preferred language and then he is asked to enter his password.
After which user is asked to choose one of the operations like checking balance or withdrawal. For each transaction, user is asked to enter password. This password is then validated and you are allowed to receive cash if you have opted for withdrawal.
As these ATM machines never go wrong in counting money and handing it over to you but it is still advisable to count your cash given by machine before leaving ATM. Undoubtedly, these machines have reduced the time taken to go in bank and follow all procedure and has also increased bank's working efficiency. but making things more simpler for common man, this common man fails to recollect back his ATM card from machine. Many such cases have turned up. People are requested by Banks and even by Government to take extra care while transacting in any ATM.
In earlier days, bank used to charge Rs. 30 odd for carrying out transactions by using other bank's ATM card. for example, if you use SBI card in ATM of Axis bank, then Axis bank would charge you Rs. 30. But today, those days are gone. These days you can use card of any bank in any ATM without charging a single rupee by the bank. ATM cards are also termed as virtual money and these cards are easy to carry rather carrying cash.
Last but not the least, ATM machines have directly or indirectly played an important role in improving nation's economy.
